Today we’d like to introduce you to Akela Brumant.
Hi Akela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m from the Virgin Islands, where I feel like there is little to no exposure for upcoming models or aspiring social media influencers. It’s not taken as seriously there, so there are not many opportunities for us. Moving to New York for college and now residing in Florida? I have gained quite an exposure that allows me to work with various brands where I can get paid for this.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I wasn’t very knowledgeable about this lifestyle, so I had to fall a lot in order to succeed. Truthfully, I’m still learning, but that’s okay. It’s all a learning process. You have to figure out what brands are good to collaborate with for your brand, what attracts your audience, etc. So, in all honesty, it is trial and error.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I mostly model, but I’ve started dipping into a bit of acting here and there. I’m proud of my growth. Social media is a huge part of our lives now, and there’s so much you can make based on these platforms. My determination and drive set me apart. Although the lifestyle is a dog eat dog world, I’ve never lost sight of who I am as a person.
What matters most to you? Why?
My success matters the most to me. I feel like my entire family is watching me, and I don’t want to let them down. I want to be successful in all that I do and to, of course, make them proud.
