Check Out Joslenny Hernandez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joslenny Hernandez.

Hi Joslenny, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It was early on in life that I became fascinated by art. I’ve always been fond of hands-on activities and any entertainment that challenged my creativity. Drawing became a favorite hobby growing up, and I often used my skills on school projects, and I always loved art class. The most memorable school trips were when we visited art museums, wax museums, and galleries. I can remember feeling a deep connection and interpreting the different artists’ work. While attending high school, I took a graphic design class, and it expanded my creative abilities even more. I’ve always stayed interested in creating, interior design, and remodeling. My amazing mother influenced my artistic talents as well. Aside from being crafty and eloquent, she was the queen of decorating our family home.

In 2018, my parents purchased new kitchen appliances, and we decided it was time to remodel, so we did. While researching home improvement tips and techniques for my parent’s kitchen, I found epoxy resin. It became an instant obsession and my mind became overwhelmed with ideas. Watching hours of videos, doing research online became a daily occurrence and eventually following fellow artists. My parents’ kitchen came together and once complete we were proud. Soon after, I found the opportunity to finally begin using all the new skills I had acquired. I began posting pictures and videos on my social media showing my creations and shortly after, supporters began purchasing my work. Creating has given me a sense of purpose, and it makes me feel like I am giving a part of me to this world. I am proud to say that in the last years, the Jh Designer Collection, and its supporters, have grown. It is personal and meaningful from every element used to its function and purpose. I only aspire to continue to express myself one creation at a time, adding joy to the life of those who acquire my creations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life can be full of surprises, in the last couple of years, I have had different obstacles along the way. For one, being inexperienced in business management has been an influential contribution. I have learned about different strategies and continue to educate myself. At first, managing online orders was new to me, and it was often troublesome. Over time, it has cost me time, money, and sleep, but I’ve stayed dedicated. The COVID-19 virus has affected us all in one way or another. My ideas of attending art expos, and partaking in gallery events had to wait, but it only tested my creativity. Each day has been a new opportunity to learn and improve. Although life hasn’t always been serene, my passion for art always allows the ups and downs to simply be part of the ride.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My specialty is epoxy resin and I love creating with it! Epoxy creates a glass-like finish that enhances the artwork I design. Many people are fond of my custom coasters, my trays, and my mixed – media art. When creating and I love adding all kinds of different materials like wood, pigments, paint, and metal to make my pieces stand out. The possibilities are truly endless! My hard work, knowledge, and gained experience have continuously made me proud.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Growing up, I attended church and participated in different ministries. God has always been a significant part of my life, and none of what I have accomplished could have been done without him. Although trauma has been a part of my life in troubled times, I have combined my faith and my passion for art and turned it all into strength. Some may not know that I struggled with depression and anxiety, but it makes me happy that today that I can use my art to express myself and help others. Discovering epoxy resin made me feel whole again.
