Check Out Issis Benti’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Issis Benti.

Hi Issis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It is so good to go back down memory lane, it feels like we began so long ago but it was actually last year. Since I can remember, I have always had a passion for sweets; I started writing baking recipes for fun when I was young but never got to do anything with them other than storage them in my mom’s closet, a few years later I took a few baking classes and as time passed I realized it became my passion. Sisi’s Sweets story began last year during the pandemic when I started getting more free time and all I could find myself doing was searching on Youtube, videos on new recipes or watching cooking and baking shows with my family; One day, I decided to make a cheesecake for my fiancé since it is definitely his favorite, and he absolutely loved it, I started making more and more to perfect the recipe and personalize it with my finishing touches; That week I gave some to my neighbors who could not believe it was homemade “It is the best cheesecake I have ever had, you need to start selling them” my next door neighbor told me; I was very surprised on how all my feedback was extremely positive and knew that I had to start expanding my flavors and offering them to my friends and family. The first step was taking pictures of my creations and getting my daughter to help me make an Instagram account for Sisi’s Sweets; shortly after more and more people started to order them and enjoy the perfect smooth and sweet bite of cheesecakes. We started working together going to supermarkets and offering our products to others; that is when we found out we could not keep making them in our house kitchen for legal reasons and had to expand to a professional setting which was better and bigger, with more room to bake more for all our friends who were in love with our cheesecakes.

From then to now, we have increased our sales and partnered up various supermarkets, restaurants and cafes all around Orlando to sell our products. We are definitely getting tremendously busy to the point my fiancé has joined the sweet world of the Sisi’s Sweets family.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe that going into new directions will always have some difficulties and challenges, for us I could definitely say it was starting a new company from scratch and with no experience, from creating a logo to ordering the right packaging taking in consideration sizes and weights, learning how to use industrial equipment such as our massive oven, and even simpler things like making a cost sheet and keeping track of our sales. Trial and error became a daily task until we mastered each skill. It seems impossible at first but if you are consistent in learning new things every day, it will start to become more smooth.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is baking. More than work is my absolute passion, we specialize in baking cheesecakes, but we do have many desserts in our menu, such as tres leches, flans, carrot cake, vanilla cake, apple strudel, etc. I am most proud of being able to do this everyday and have made the decision of going and making my dreams reality instead of keeping them a dream. I believe what sets me apart from others is discipline, constancy and enthusiasm in everything I do.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid 19 is something that has affected all of us in one way or another, so many devastating things have come with it and it is very unfortunate, a lot of people lost their jobs and family, but we always have to take a positive lesson from any bad situation; and for me was to learn how to appreciate more the little things, such as family time and how to understand that we can do anything we put our mind to, to not be so afraid of the outcome, because if you do not try it, you will never know what the ending is.
