Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Dicks Penaranda. Them and their team share their story with us below:

For almost two decades, Lindsay Dicks Penaranda helped her clients tell their stories in the online world. Being brought up around a family of marketers but a product of Generation Y, Lindsay naturally gravitated to the new world of online marketing. Lindsay began freelance writing in 2000 and soon after launched her own PR firm that thrived by offering an in-your-face “Guaranteed PR” that was one of the first of its type in the nation. ​

Lindsay’s new media career centered on her philosophy that “people buy people.” Her goal was to help her clients build a relationship with their prospects and customers. Once that relationship was built and they learned to trust them as the expert in their field, then they will do business with them. Lindsay also built a proprietary process that utilized social media marketing, content marketing and search engine optimization to create online “buzz” for her clients that helped them to convey their business and personal story. Lindsay’s clientele spanned the entire business map and ranged from doctors and small business owners to Inc. 500 CEOs.

In 2007, Lindsay founded CelebritySites, an online marketing company specializing in social media and online marketing, where she served as their CEO and actively participated in company growth, structure and development of processes for 14 years. Lindsay also served as COO of the Dicks + Nanton Agency from 2010-2020.

Lindsay has been recognized as one of the top online marketing experts in the world and has co-authored more than 30 best-selling books alongside authors such as Steve Forbes, Brian Tracy, Jack Canfield (creator of the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series), Dan Kennedy, Robert Allen, Dr. Ivan Misner (founder of BNI), Jay Conrad Levinson (author of the “Guerilla Marketing” series), Leigh Steinberg and many others, including the breakthrough hit Celebrity Branding You!

She was also been selected as one of America’s PremierExpertsTM and has been quoted in Newsweek, theWall Street Journal, USA Today, and Inc. magazine as well as featured on NBC, ABC, and CBS television affiliates speaking on social media, search engine optimization and making more money online. As well as featured locally on FOX 35 News as their Online Marketing Expert.

Lindsay, a graduate of the University of Florida and a national speaker, has shared the stage with some of the top speakers in the world, such as Brian Tracy, Lee Milteer, Ron LeGrand, Arielle Ford, Leigh Steinberg, Dr. Nido Qubein, Dan Sullivan, David Bullock, Peter Shankman and many others. Lindsay was also a Producer on the Emmy-winning film Jacob’s Turn and sat on the advisory board for the Global Economic Initiative for two years.

Lindsay now owns and operates two eCommerce companies Blue Glass Candle Company and By Lindsay Clay Co. serving both companies as lead designer, maker and CEO.

Blue Glass Candle Co Story:

My nanny growing up loved blue glass. I remember as a child going to garage sales to look for anything blue glass; blue glass vases, wine glasses and yes, candle holders. To this day, blue glass always makes me smile.

About two years ago, I came across a book called Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. Maybe it was right place/ right time but this book fostered the seed in my heart that grew into a feeling I couldn’t ignore. I had a successful career, but I wanted to ‘do more.’ In the path to find what that calling was, Rachel talked about creating a “joy list”; a personal list of life’s little pleasures that bring you joy so that no matter the day you can always create joy for yourself. A few on my list? Wine, coffee, blue glass and candles.

My husband will even tell you I’m always on the hunt for a good candle. It obviously has to smell good but I also want it to be something that’s pretty to display on the counter; something that warms your home and your heart. And while that may be slightly cheesy- to me, it’s the truth. To me, when I come home from a long daylighting a candle gives me pause and makes me smile. Always.

And thus, Blue Glass Candle Co. was born. Among the piles of laundry, toys on the floor and “hey momma” screams here’s to sparking joy in everyday chaos.

In 2020, yes in the midst of a global pandemic, I decided I needed “more.”

Not so much more on my plate… in fact, I needed less on my plate.! But I needed to be more fulfilled, find more outlets to be creative and create more joy for myself and others.

Many, MANY, moons ago when I was little I’d spend every second I could creating tiny figurines made of clay. My mother still showcases them around her house to this day 😊

Fast forward a “few” years, and my love for statement earrings but need for a lightweight option brought me to polymer clay earrings.

My love for design and long-lasting love for clay finally all made sense and I started designing and creating earrings for my first collection.

Collection sounds so official, doesn’t it? I’ve always wanted to have a “collection” … Ok, so we’ll call it what it was, my first set of earrings I threw out there to see if others loved them as much as I did.

They did, and here we are.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Ha! No.

My journey in business began almost two decades ago and I can’t even count how many times I have failed along the way. BUT failing is a part of business and it’s how you adapt and overcome those failures that determine if you are successful or not.

From an early age, I was labeled as slow but later discovered I have a learning disability Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome which made reading a challenge and it’s something I still deal with today. Misspelling of words definitely still plagues me but as my Dad always says, “it is what it is.”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my former businesses, I thrived on numbers and processes. I laugh now, as I wasn’t ever the person that someone came to for creative advice. It was only when I started Blue Glass Candle Company and set out to find vessels that would look as good as they smelled that my designer genes started to shine.

About seven months after I started Blue Glass Candle Company, I got the “bug” to design earrings. I swear my phone was listening to me as I told a friend of mine I really needed lightweight statement earrings. The next day an Instagram ad for polymer clay earrings popped up and I said to myself, “I can do that!” I was hooked immediately.

Throughout my years in business, there is one business philosophy that I ALWAYS come back to, “People buy people. Not your product or service. Once they get to know you, like you and trust you then they do business with you.”

In every business I have ever been in nothing is truer.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I’m a 7th generation Floridan and was born and raised in this area. In high school, I fell in love with the charm of Winter Park and said one day I would raise a family here. Since living here with my own family, it’s not just the scenic lakes, brick roads and historic houses but the people who make this city a wonderful home.
