Check Out William (Bill) Ruszala’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to William (Bill) Ruszala.

Hi William (Bill), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was always the kid that would pick up a magazine or a book and just look at the pictures. To me, they told more of a story than the actual words. So when my little brother was given a camera all those years ago, I borrowed it constantly. I was born in Edison New Jersey, at eight years old, my parents moved us to Missouri, I lived there until I was 20 then made my way to Florida. We always took some kind of trips in the summers when I was younger, after each trip I wanted to see more and more.

My first SLR was a Minolta camera, it was film, which I feel limited my learning. Then came the Canon DSLR, with digital I could practice more and try new things. I love to photograph anything and everything, Portraits, Travel, Landscapes, etc.

I am at an all-time high when I have camera in hand.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been struggles. Lighting is not as easy as everybody thinks, the camera sees things differently than the human eye. But once you learn that, then you have to learn to make the photo your own. For so long, I tried to be like the experts but have just now realized I am more satisfied if the photo comes out the way I envision it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For the most part, I have worked in the hospitality business and do photography as a side gig. I do hope in the future, I can turn that around.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
My eye for photography has helped me progress in my full-time job to a more creative position. I do all my setups as if they are getting set for a photography session.
