Check Out Tara Fontana’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Fontana.

Hi Tara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, like so many girls, I was obsessed with weddings. Right out of high school, I went to cosmetology school. That leads me to my first salon job on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills than to Malibu. I lived for any bride that would come in. I then had the idea to start a mobile hair & makeup business. It grew pretty quickly. Back in 2003, not many stylists were offering mobile services. I started hiring other talented artists with a passion for events. A couple of years later, I was given a chance from the Disneyland Resort to be added to their list. Disney has always been a dream of mine. Once things got going there, I decided to expand to the Orlando, Walt Disney World area. As time went on, Fairytale Hair and Makeup now have near 30 artists throughout California, Las Vegas & Central Florida. As of now, Orlando & Disney is where the bulk of our weddings are!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not always a smooth road. As I write this, we are currently in the middle of a pandemic with the Corona Virus. It has been terrible for everyone. We have had hundreds of postponements & cancelations. So this would probably take the cake for challenges. We did survive in 2008 when the economy crashed and no one was getting married. This happened right after I decided to quit the salon job and go full time with running Fairytale Hair and Makeup and weddings. But we survived… and we will survive through the pandemic. I believe what doesn’t kill you will make you stronger, and I believe we will be better & stronger after this has passed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a team of award-winning professional hair & makeup artists. We come to the client for their special day. We specialize in weddings, special events, photoshoots, boudoir. Fairytale Hair and Makeup have been in business since 2003. We have had the honor of being a part of thousands of bride’s special days. Fairytale Hair and Makeup is a multi-award-winning company. We have won The Knot Best of Weddings for every year 2010- 2021. We have won WeddingWire’s Brides & Couples Choice for every year from 2009- 2021. We were named Best Hair & makeup in the Country in 2014 from Wedding Industry Experts. Our team has been featured on 16 episodes of David Tutera’s shows such as “My Fair Wedding, My Fairy Wedding Unveiled, David Tutera Unveiled & David Tutera’s Celebrations.”

David loved working with us so much that he had us do the hair & makeup for his own wedding. I believe we have the best “job” in the world. There is a no bigger honor than to be chosen to be a part of someone’s wedding day. It is the biggest day of one’s life. We take it very seriously. An opportunity we don’t take for granted. Hair & makeup sets the tone for the day. If we are late, everything runs late. I always ask the client when we are done, what do they think? If they say, they like it… It’s not good. Do you like who you are marrying? They say, “no, I love them.” “Exactly! You need to love how you look! How can we make you love it?” I am so proud of where we have come and the talent we have on our team. I am excited to see what the future holds!

What matters most to you? Why?
Making sure the client is happy & the artist is happy. If the client isn’t happy and we don’t provide a 5-star service, we would not be here. The best feeling in the world is when clients look at themselves for the first time and love how they look—having someone feel great about themselves. This is what it is all about! If we don’t take care of our artists and make them happy to be on this team, they will leave. We have artists that have been with us for over ten years. To me, it’s a true testament to see the same artists for years and little turnover. Loyalty is everything! We are a team. No one is better than the other. This is their business. We all work together to make sure everyone is taken care of. This is how we maintain the quality of experienced artists we have. We do a lot of boudoir shoots. The client comes in, really hesitant. Many times, they almost canceled cause they weren’t feeling their best or feel like they should have lost more weight, etc… Then they see themselves with hair & makeup; they become a lot less nervous & empowered. They then see the pictures and say, “I never knew I could look like that!!” It gives them the confidence they didn’t have before. This is everything!!!
