Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella Cammarata.
Hi Gabriella, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been known as the “photographer” in my family since I was a kid. Taking pictures at every birthday party, vacation, and family reunion. In high school, I was introduced to photography classes and the possibility of turning it into a career and instantly fell in love with the idea of doing this for the rest of my life. There’s something about the way photography creates relationships and brings people closer together that I find so powerful. I grew up a Georgia peach and had many opportunities to live out my passion through being an assistant photographer and working alongside several fine arts photographers in Atlanta, Georgia. I studied photojournalism at the University of Georgia in 2018 (GO DAWGS) and after graduation, I came down to Orlando to participate in the Disney College Program. I have always had special place in my heart for Disney and knew after my program that I had to find a way to express my love for people, photography, and Disney. Shortly after my program ended, I rebranded my business, packed up everything I owned and moved back down to Orlando so I never had to leave the magic again. I’ve been here for a little over a year now and have worked with some of the most amazing people. Never in a million years did I think I would be able to work with such beautiful people doing what I am most passionate about, yet here I am doing what I love everyday with Disney in my backyard. Never give up on your dreams. They just might be around the corner waiting for you!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Everybody has bumpy roads and obstacles to overcome. Life in general is full of setbacks and learning to push through the heavy storms. After my program and deciding to move back down to Orlando, I knew I was taking a big risk when it came to my photography business, but also life in general. I was leaving the place I had known all my life, a steady job, family, friends, and all the clients I had grown relationships with over the years. I was truly “starting fresh”. There were definitely moments where I second-guessed myself and I was not entirely sure what I was risking was going to work out. Once I made the move, I had to start a new portfolio, grow my social media following, gain the trust of brand new clients, all while making new friends, exploring my new home and staying focused on my goals. Looking back on the situation, I know it was scary and risky in all aspects, but it was also the best decision I have ever made. Don’t be afraid to take a risk every once in a while. You might end up exactly where you are meant to be!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in lifestyle photography, focusing on helping my clients express who they are through photographs. My goal is to create a safe space for my clients, no matter the location or type of session. I take time catering to each individual need to create an environment that they will feel most at home in. I want them to know what it feels like to be in front of a camera and be completely comfortable in their own skin.
I work with creators in the community helping them create beautiful images for their business or social media accounts. I have subscription packages where they can plan monthly photoshoots, creating photographs for them to use throughout the month. They never have to worry about what to post on social media or throwing together a rushed photo shoot with their staff or partners.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love that photography has a way of bringing people together and getting to personally know my clients has always been a priority of mine. I love making new friends and always want them to feel safe and loved in my presence. I have a website where they can find all of my information and a contact form which gets sent directly to me. I also post questions on my Instagram stories (@bythewaves.photo ) to help start conversations and learn more about my followers. My Instagram DM’s are always open as well. Whether it’s a question about my services, Disney food recommendations, or just needing a friend to listen, I am always here!
