Community Highlights: Meet Jarrod Cardona of The Training Spot LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarrod Cardona

Hi Jarrod, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I received my bachelor’s degree from UCF in Sports and Exercise Science. After going through my own personal weight loss journey and teaching group training sessions during my internship I immediately fell in love with the ability to connect with other individuals through movement. I began my personal trainer career at LA Fitness in January of 2015 after finishing my degree at UCF. After learning corporate lifestyle and what felt like 10 years of experience in 1 (I had trained over 100 clientele and was working over 40 hour work weeks of in person training) I parted ways after a year and a few months. I began the same evening I departed LA Fitness at a private “boutique” wellness studio.. I learned a lot about myself as an entrepreneur and a human. I restarted from “scratch” and built back up to about 12 regular personal training clients. 11 months later we parted ways. The following day I began training out of an old colleague’s fitness boutique facility, but this time I had about 11 clients that came with me. 6 months later the owner moved his business and I subleased the spot. In March of 2019 I opened up The Training Spot LLC because my fitness family and I needed a “home”. No more moving from place to place, and We could nurture the culture in a way that represented our idea of what health and wellness is really about. I started “The Spot” with about 15 members. Here we are December 2020 and we have 4 personal fitness coaches, a great administration team, multiple group instructors, and over 60 members.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Lol! Absolutely not! Starting off I had constant anxiety! “How am I going to do this?” “I don’t know anything about running a business.” I just signed a lease for 3 years and poured all of my savings into this.” Self doubt became a dear friend of mine. After being open with some clientele who have definitely now become family/friends they brought me back to the present instead of me living in my worrisome thoughts of the future. I had a business partner I had started the spot with (at the time roommate and friend). 6 months later and the bank account was cleared and I was couch surfing/sleeping in the office at “The Spot.” THEN THE RONA! We went from a growing facility with 2 coaches and about 30 clientele to 12 clientele. There’s always struggles along the road, but that’s the opportunity we have to learn and grow, and to be creative.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
“The Spot” is a private performance training facility that encompasses overall health and wellness. We embrace growth, contribution and connection. I believe what sets us apart is our ability to connect and tailor movement to every individual. We all really want to know our athletes. We want to know how they sleep, how they eat, and the habits that are preventing them from their goals. I believe what sets us apart as well is our ability to provide proper exercise prescriptions to not only avoid unnecessary pain/wear and tear during a workout, but to also help heal the body (tendinitis, rheumatoid arthritis, plantar fasciitis, lower back pain, neck/shoulder pain etc.) that has really gotten us where we are today: word of mouth. We specialize and offer services in weight loss, breath-work, functional range and conditioning (functional training), corrective exercise science, sports performance, olympic weight lifting, myofascial release (muscle tissue recovery) kettlebells and many unconventional training methods. We also offer specialized and really unique group trainings throughout the week! Check out our google reviews!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that this city is full of love. There are so many kinds of people: business and creative type that really find the ability to connect and contribute to so many others. I love how much there is to do and a lot of people are honestly just really kind, you can feel it. There’s a lot of passionate people here AND SO MUCH GOOD FOOD. Least: some of the driving 🤷‍♂️😂
