Community Highlights: Meet Jillian DeAnnuntis of The Picnic Fairy & Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian DeAnnuntis.

Jillian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started The Picnic Fairy & Co. in the midst of the Corona Virus Pandemic. Like many other families in the US and across the world, we were struggling financially. I needed to make more money to support my three kids and our dog Micah. My 14 year old Mikayla was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, and I have been a stay-at-home Mom since she was born. Being a special needs parent has presented many challenges so a traditional job just hasn’t been possible for me. Finding a way to make more money and also be there for my children when I’m needed most became my top priority and that’s when I decided to try the luxury pop-up picnic business out. I’ve always had a passion for interior design, hiking and nature. Whether or not my clients prefer to have their toes in the sand on a beautiful beach, picnic at a beautiful park or lakefront at sunset my goal is to give them an unforgettable experience.

Finding creative ways for people to continue spending time with each other and creating memories despite the challenges that COVID-19 presents is important to me. After launching the business in October 2020, it quickly took off. Since then, we have expanded to South Florida, New Jersey and Puerto Rico and I plan to expand to new locations soon. The Picnic Fairy & Co. is a family-run business. Here in Central Florida, my oldest daughter Gianna, 18, helps me run the business. In South Florida, NJ & Puerto Rico, The Picnic Fairy & Co. is run by other family members, which include my sister, mom, a cousin, my aunt and my niece. We have had amazing clients and are very excited to see what the future holds for The Picnic Fairy & Co. and our family.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been easy to get where we are today. I have had to work many 12-16 hour days. However, being able to do it mostly from home, made it possible. I had to use all my savings to start the company up and buy my initial inventory. I was broke and those closest to me thought I was crazy and investing way too much but I felt I was on to something and it would pay off.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Picnic Fairy & Co. specializes in designing custom luxury pop-up picnics for any occasion. We can accommodate picnics for two to up to 25 people. It’s perfect for anniversaries, birthdays, reunions, a picnic brunch, graduation, engagements, retirement, corporate events, bridal showers, baby showers or just because! We are currently serving Central & Southern Florida, NJ, and Puerto Rico. We work with wonderful local vendors to provide amazing enchantments for the perfect picnic experience. Enchantments include projector and screen rental, delicious charcuterie grazing boxes, yoga instructor, spa services, brunch boards, chocolate-covered strawberries, sweet treat boxes and more!

Our customer service and custom designs are what set us apart. We feel our picnics are as unique as our clients and no two will ever be exactly alike. Our clients choose what theme/colors they’d like and we create something custom for them that they will love for no additional charge. We love creating new designs. We also offer different packages to choose from as well as romantic hotel room Pop-Ups! Customer service is the most important thing to us. From the first moment of contact, till we return to pick up our items after their picnic, we want to make sure our clients have a magical, stress-free experience.

How do you think about happiness?
Making others happy makes me happy. Being able to provide for my children and not have to worry about paying bills makes me happy. Being able to accomplish all this after being a special needs Mom for the last 14 years makes me happy. Making my kids proud of me makes me happy. Meeting so many amazing new people makes me happy. Thinking about the future now makes me happy.

Honestly thought a picnic was: throw a blanket down and pull out the wine and cheese.

This is far more of a experience. Seriously personal touch of colors and theme. Personal games for people to interact. Video for movies or reflections of life/relationships.. The Picnic Fairy is very professional, prompt, personal, willing to work with your needs and desires/fantasy.. She makes people very comfortable and enjoy surroundings.

Following I have seen engagements, beach settings, various parks, luxury gourmet local foods and beverages.

In short, wonderful positive experience that uplifts the community, causes people to get closer, definitely gives a warm fuzzy in these days of distancing! Lastly, this startup company is empowering a special needs mom to take care of her children independently while keeping her priorities of family first. That’s a wonderful complete story with a great ending…I don’t believe in fairies but this one has me believing how we all should stop and smell the roses!
