Community Highlights: Meet Michaele Acary of Hayven Mobile Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michaele Acary.

Hi Michaele, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Entrepreneurship is in my blood. My parents and grandparents were business owners. For as long as I can remember, entrepreneurship has been a major part of my life. My mother had a snack popup and would sell juice and other foods to college students at the school she worked for. I used to get excited watching her sell food. Four year old me, would excitedly help her sort through inventory and prep for her popups. I knew that someday, I would be an entrepreneur, just like her. When I was ten years old, she got sick with cancer and had to quit her job as a CNA. In order to make up for the financial loss and have more flexibility for cancer treatments and school. She sold books on the weekend and had me come along with her. Her book sales helped support our family.

At the time, she was working another job and going to school part-time. I was extremely inspired by her motivation and drive to be independent while fighting cancer That same year. I started looking for ways to make extra money for Bonne bell lip gloss, Jean jackets and butterfly hair clips. I sold lemonade, chocolates and tickets to events. My local community supported me in my entrepreneurial endeavors and bought my merchandise. By the time I was 11 years old, I had started working at a local apple orchard to pay for school trips etc. During high school, I did four years of work-study to pay for my private school education. I worked half the day and went to school for the other half. I worked in the; laundry, grounds and maintenance, food prep services, rehab transporter housekeeping, front desk and customer service at our local gym. By the time I graduated from high school, I had four years of solid work history in hospitality. While studying massage therapy during my freshman year of college, I wrote my first business plan. I knew that because of my socioeconomic status, gender and race, I would need to have my own business in order to survive.

After six years of college, I dropped out due to burnout and financial stressors. That’s when I started brainstorming various business ideas and concepts that would give me the flexibility to go back to school and support myself financially. After experimenting with several business ideas, I came up with my mobile spa concept. I was noticing a need for onsite wellness services so I decided to work with that angle. Five years ago, I had a feeling that something like a pandemic would happen. I decided to trust my gut and be prepared as much as possible for the inevitable. I invested money made with my side job as a professional nanny to grow my business. Right before the Pandemic, the business was finally starting to grow. The seeds I had planted 16 years ago were coming. To fruition.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many obstacles. I was homeless for a while. I had to take a break and temporarily shutdown and put everything on hold several times. The pandemic and shutdowns has severely set back my business goals.

We provide onsite wellness services to our clients. We specialize in bringing spa and wellness services to our clients. We are known for putting effort into our onsite wellness services and events. We want our clients to feel that our onsite wellness services provide them with the spa experience as much as possible. We want voyageur readers to know that there are safe options out there that will safely meet their wellness needs during this difficult time.

How do you define success?
Success is choosing to live a life of integrity even when it’s difficult to do so.
