Today we’d like to introduce you to Diva Velasquez.
Hi Diva, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born in Medellin, Colombia, I graduated with a degree with honors in accounting from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Colombia at the age of 23. I moved to California 12 years ago to pursue new ventures. Two years later, I decided to make the city of Orlando, Florida my new home. Passionate about impacting the community, I joined New York Life in 2014 and immediately found success becoming the Top Producer Rookie of The Year. I was two times executive council award-winning agent. In 2016, I was promoted to Latino Market Manager for entire Central Florida. My list of accolades with New York Life includes: Career Success Award, Career Life Producer Award, Career Life Achiever Award. Life Foundation Award, Rookie of the year in the Latino Market, 2015 Class Leader, 2016 Centurion Award Winner. With Promotion being inevitable, In January of 2021, I will enter the Associate Partner Program at New York Life as I embark on my new role as a Partner for my company. I am a proud mother of two beautiful daughters Kelly and Valeria and grandmother to my handsome grandson Thiago.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As an immigrant to a new country with a new language, it was a transition full of obstacles. However, I was willing to face them all and move on until I achieved what I set out to do when I left my country. I always had very high goals, and every year, I set out to take an extra step to achieve my American dream.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a hiring manager for the Orlando Office of New York Life, my role is to grow our office by giving career opportunities to the right individuals looking for an opportunity to change their lives as I have changed mine.
What matters most to you? Why?
My family and my career. I want to show them that anything is possible.
