Today we’d like to introduce you to Joycelyn Bryant.

Hi Joycelyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?

Entrepreneurship is in my blood. I remember being scolded for selling candy to my peers in Elementary School. I started my first company, Joycelyn’s Southern Kitchen, while still in college, completing the pre-med track and working full time. After nearly burning myself out from an intense course load and toxic work environment at a call center, I saw an opportunity to use my natural talents in the kitchen as a means to gain financial independence. I delivered soul food meals to my hungry college peers then quickly evolved to a catering operation. As I and the business evolved, I began to offer more plant-based options. I also began and using my educational background to teach about the interaction between food and the human body – assisting others on transitioning to a plant-based diet. SpinJoy! was birthed as a dedicated practical resource for this transition and for those already committed to the lifestyle. I want to show people that eating plant-based and healthier, in general, can truly be an enjoyable and extremely gratifying commitment.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Access to capital and team building have been two consistent challenges along my way. These two are the keys to building a lasting and consistent, highly profitable business.  Otherwise, the journey is as smooth as I make it 😉

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have always been rather diverse in my abilities but an academic at the forefront. I’ve been a tutor for over a decade – working with elementary-aged students all the way to upper-level undergraduate students. I also teach culinary techniques, nutrition, and food education in the courses I offer through my outlets as a chef. I teach group classes monthly for the Orange County Public Library System. I have also done extended plant-based food educational curriculums with the YMCA and WellCare. I am most proud of my ability to communicate multiple forms of knowledge in a way that is digestible to a large variety of people.

What are your plans for the future?
My main focus at the moment is to scale SpinJoy! to be fully accessible in stores across the US. With that will come product line expansion. I’m very excited to offer convenient, nutritionally dense, plant-based options en masse. There are a lot of changes happening at this very moment as I’ve accepted the challenge myself to lead my most desirable life while building a sustainable business.
