Conversations with Mariella Montoya

Hi Mariella, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, the honor is mine! And thank you for this interview. I’d like to say my story is motivational, mostly limitless. When I was little, I was diagnosed with epilepsy; and even though everything was under control, I lived a life with restrictions. Simple things such as riding a roller coaster, watching scary movies, or driving a car were some of the things that I couldn’t do back then because of the way my lifestyle was settled.

Today that has changed. My life is not the same anymore. After a couple of surgeries, I am now a “free bird” able to live a normal life by doing all the things that I love, one of those is photography!

Now my passion for arts and photography was always in me, I remember gathering pictures and making book collages with them. I will also remember getting old polaroids just to have them at home and play with them!. But it wasn’t until 2015 that I saved a couple of hundreds and bought my first DSLR camera. As I messed with it, I confirmed my passion for this art and knew that I needed to do more about it.

Therefore, I started Ella M. Photography a business for lifestyle photography. This opportunity has not only allowed me to become a better photographer for others but also allows me to find my real passion in something that I can do for a living.

And as I always tell others… don’t limit yourself from what makes you happy!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building Ella Lifestyle Photography was a little intimidating for me. I have worked with photographers and videographers for over five years before which made me felt a little pressured. On top of that, the demand for wedding photographers in Orlando was growing faster back in 2015 so I felt that things needed to be done right and as soon as possible. However, after starting the business, seeing the constant support of friends and family and the bookings, I felt more and more motivated!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I consider myself a creative soul!

Professionally I major in Hospitality Management with a Bachelors degree from the University of Central Florida.
On the other hand, I’ve specialized in lifestyle photography for the past five years now, photographing events such as engagements, family celebrations, business portraits, and more! And in my free time, I like to practice documentary urban photography.

As I’m certified in content marketing, this year I have taken time to create platforms to inform and entertain about some of my hobbies. By using social media such as Instagram and Spotify I now run a food & wellness Blog: @amorgordo_ and a bilingual podcast: Randomness with Ella

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite memories are always related to my childhood surrounded by family and food, and that can be resumed in one word, Peru.

One of my favorite memories was playing games with all my cousins at my grandma’s patio. Or the big and loud Christmas eve gatherings that we had back in Peru. Lots of tasty food, music, laughs, and fireworks all going on by midnight. It was priceless!
