Conversations with Rachel Hilinski

Hi Rachel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My company evolved from my own journey over the past twenty-plus years. I learned at an early age how real, whole foods made my mind and body feel. I went from being borderline anemic, feeling heavy and exhausted to feeling alive with ENERGY. There was no going back! However, life has a funny way of throwing you curveballs, and years later when I lost my dad to cancer, the fear and pain wore my body down. My healthy food choices were keeping me stable, but my mental and emotional health was falling apart. I realized that I needed more than nutrition to get me through this part of my life. I needed to lose my fear, calm my mind, BREATHE and center myself.

So, I did. I brought breathwork and meditation back into my life…but this time, I practiced it daily. Some days felt better than others, but over time I was able to connect deeper to myself, my intuition. I felt more connected to my dad. I started to become more aware of his “hello’s” from heaven. I felt good again. Then…another curveball. While raising my own family and taking care of my twin brother (taking over my dad’s responsibilities), I found out my mother had Alzheimer’s. This time was a little different. My journey of eating clean, real foods was still serving me well, my daily breathwork and meditation practice was helping me stay grounded and connected, but it took work to not let fear come back and bring me down. I knew I was ready for more. I needed more.

As a mother and caretaker, I needed to show up every day as the best version of myself. It was important to me to be positive, uplifting, energetic while also being calm and relaxed. I wanted this so I could come home from a days’ work and still give my kids and my husband the best of me. I wanted to show them how after a hard day, we can still come together and talk, laugh or cry. I wanted to be ready for this next journey of taking care of my mother and providing her the best care that I could. So, I dug deep. I learned how to work with my mind to create new neuropathways in my brain so that I could subconsciously find the positive in every situation. I added yoga to my exercise regimen, which benefited my breathwork and meditation more than I could have imagined. I used affirmations to help keep me strong and I used recapitulation to help me create more awareness around my daily actions, routines and habits…I did everything I could to bring the best version of myself to every situation.

Through this journey, as a holistic nutritionist and breathwork-meditation teacher, I used my education to help me reach all of these goals. Over time I have realized that everything I do to benefit my physical health has also affected my mental and emotional health. What you work on for the “inside” shows up for you on the outside too…it’s a win-win. Simply because EVERYTHING is connected…our mind, body and soul. That is how I created Be.Live.Change – to help people BE healthier, LIVE happier and positively CHANGE their life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think all entrepreneurial journeys have their highs and lows. Some days feel amazing and others can feel less than, but I love doing what I am doing so I don’t feel like I can ever complain. I strongly believe that when things don’t work out, that it’s really just a reroute to what is meant to be. So, I am constantly reminding myself of that. However, I can say that if I were to list a struggle – it would have to be social media. I am a total work in progress with that one. It’s a journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a holistic nutritionist, meditation teacher and creator of Be.Live.Change. My Be.Live.Change program has three divisions: 1. Corporate 2. Challenges 3. Mentorships The Be.Live.Change programs are meant to help people learn how to replace old, unfulfilling habits with healthy ones that up level their life mentally, physically and spiritually.

The foundation of this program is built on four pillars: 1. Nutrition 2. Stress Management 3. Lifestyle 4. Mindful Empowerment The program for the Corporate offices has been wonderful at really improving employee’s health and behaviors at work. It’s a win-win for both the employers and employees. It involves presentations and weekly activity involving everyone to dive deep into the changes they want to make in their lives. The Challenges are seven days long and they happen four times a year – they are wonderful at giving everyone a week to feel what a difference it makes when you take care of whole self.

The Mentorship is when I work one-on-one with people targeting their specific intentions. This lasts between 10-12 weeks. Lastly, I teach individuals and small groups a meditation practice called Primordial Sound Meditation. I trained under Deepak Chopra and have loved being a part of his teachings. I am most proud of creating the Be.Live.Change programs. Nothing makes me happier than when I see people’s lives positively impacted. It’s truly a ripple effect. When you show up in life as the best version of yourself – it then impacts your family and friends too.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I am so grateful for my husband’s support. He encouraged me to leave corporate America which allowed me to really dive into what fuels my soul and impacts change in the world. I definitely have had some friends that were huge supporters – always rereading my blogs, articles and proofreading stuff that I created. As far as teammates, I couldn’t be more grateful for my media/designer, Heather, who helped me to build my website, creates my designs and puts all of my work into a beautiful, usable display. I wouldn’t be where I am now without her help.
