Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexander Bukalo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Bukalo.

Alexander, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born June 5th, 1992 in Berlin, Germany. I moved to Orlando, Florida at the age of five and grew up there until moving to San Diego, California in 2015. As a kid, I was very active and really tried out all kinds of sports from basketball and soccer to Tae kwon do. In my teenage years, I took skateboarding serious and eventually began racing motocross with my sister. I eventually broke my knee which led to me needing knee surgery and that was when my family decided it was in my best interest to stop. Leading into my freshman year of high school is around the time I started getting into weight lifting and started exploring gyms. I was exposed to a whole other active and competitive world that I was really interested in learning more about. For the next 2-3 years, I would go to the gym several times a week with my friends and work out to the best of our knowledge. The more results I saw the more I wanted to achieve. In my senior year of high school, I started taking lifting serious and focused on gaining knowledge on the science behind the human body and the most efficient ways of working out.

Once I graduated high school, I went straight into college for physical therapy and continued learning on my own. About a year into college, I decided I would get a general studies degree and pursue personal training. At this point, I was obsessed and fitness became my passion. I finished college and shortly after, moved to San Diego and officially got certified as an “ACE” Trainer. From there, I started working at 24hr fitness as a trainer and continued my education and became a certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist and corrective exercise specialist. I eventually left the corporate gym and started pursuing my dream of being an independent trainer. From there, I went on to run my own PT business for four years until covid struck and decisions had to be made. Ultimately I decided moving back to Orlando and rebuilding the business here was the wise decision and I’m grateful I did. Fast forward a few months and things are going great. I have an amazing clientele base that are all so determined to change their life. This is only the beginning and I am beyond excited to see what the future has in store for me and my fitness journey! Stay tuned 😉

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The first few years of pursuing PT full-time I struggled to survive financially and burned through majority of my savings. It wasn’t until year four that things took a turn and the business gained traction. No matter what I knew, if I stuck to it long enough the business would grow. Covid was the second biggest struggle for two reasons. 1. I lived in California… they’re still on full lockdown. 2. 75% of my clientele was 50 years and up so they were much more cautious to resume training.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
With over ten years of training and experience in the health and wellness industry, I have created the ultimate approach for becoming the healthiest and happiest you’ve ever been. With ABS, I start by creating a 1 of 1 workout and nutrition plan specific to your goals, needs, and body. Every single movement, set, rep, weight, etc., is observed, documented, and used to keep evolving the workouts with you to truly create the best program possible. What sets me apart from other trainers is the attention to detail and the specific approach I take with each individual.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Due to the increase in obesity and unhealthy lifestyles that people have adapted, I only see the need for personal trainers and other health professionals growing. My goal is to teach as many people as possible that living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be miserable and that it’s all about balance!
