Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Nakeia. Them and their team share their story with us below:
As a young Florida native, Danielle began her wildest dreams when her mother purchased her first Mac computer. Yes, you know the one with the bubble monitor and the built-in system that came with the matching mouse and keyboard? Once it was booted and gave access to the internet, Danielle’s world was able to expand in many ways than she’d ever imagine. She learned how to type, then from typing learned the many ways that computers are able to help people design in more ways than one. Once in school, she started taking up computer courses but never really stuck to her passion. Ended up graduating high school, then entered into college not really knowing what to pursue. Danielle began a different course of study, feeling that it would be the most difficult thing to try to get into because everyone else was doing it. Her dream was very short-lived as she started an office career, but there was still a little glimmer of hope. Working on newsletters, grant letters/proposals for funding and annual reports for an organization that helped parents find childcare, being able to create a fun weekly report for parents during summer camps, also helping with auditing reports to make the designs look very sleek and professional were some of the many things Danielle did on a daily basis which helped keep that little flame of creativity burning inside of her. That’s all that was needed to create TheeGIRLBrand, here she is with many different services to offer to any business or organization. Let Danielle bring your creative thoughts to life and help your brand flourish!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business always has its struggles, sometimes it feels like you’re still learning the ropes but you keep climbing to reach the top. My business right now is literally a one-man show and I’m also working a full-time job so the balance of working tons of hours is a struggle. Startup costs we’re literally out of pocket but being able to manage my finances I was able to do it and still pay the bills. I’m dedicated so struggles just challenge me to be a more successful individual.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My career and my business are two different lanes however my skills allow me to do what I love in both. Career-wise I do Executive Administration which involves help with graphic designs for reports. It’s fun to be able to play around but give a professional feel to the reports for many entities. For my business, I have the pleasure of being more creative and fun because with my clients it’s their preference when it comes to business. If a client needs branding, a new logo, a website, business cards, banners, etc. whatever they need to brand themselves as a business or an individual I can help with making their idea a reality that will captivate their clients and help them grow.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Wow, this is a good question! Besides startup costs, if you don’t have any (getting sponsors or raising funds) I feel that creating a business plan is the first thing to do! A good business plan guides you through each stage of starting and managing your business. You’ll use your business plan as a roadmap for how to structure, run, and grow your new business. It’s a way to think through the key elements of your business. I wish I knew that a business plan would’ve helped me in more ways than one. It’s literally made for you to build your business step-by-step, and I wish I knew this when I start it because I would’ve made things so much easier.
