Daily Inspiration: Meet Edina Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edina Houston.

Hi Edina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When building our first home I made all of our New Construction selections and designed it from the Floor plan/Construction Documents. By the time our home was completed, we were ready to have a Full Installation Day. Some of my neighbors took notice and asked, “Who did you hire for Interior Design”? I explained my process, and before I knew it, I was helping my neighbors pick their Home Selections at the Design Center and helping them with their furniture choices. At that time, I decided that I wanted to re-enroll back into college to get my degree in Interior Design. I had my second-born son in between midterms and didn’t miss a day of class. I graduated with an A- average. I started taking friends and family as my clients to build my portfolio. I posted my work on social media, and my business took off.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
– Being a stay-at-home mother and Full-Time Student was not easy. My husband made sure to help me with all of our daily tasks so that I could complete my Project Deliverables.

– Giving birth in the middle of Mid-terms

– Asking for help from my Village (my friend and my parents) to watch the kids while I did my internship.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love being a creative!!! I see everything from a Visual Eye. I can walk into an Empty space and see full potential. I am also a Licensed Real Estate Agent, so I can also see what others do not. Which comes especially useful in-Home Staging!

I specialize in New Construction Design. I enjoy doing the Option Selections and taking the stress out of picking the Finishes for their home or Commercial Space. I ask that my clients fill out a Questionnaire and show me Inspiration Pictures to help me understand what it is that they want they space to be. I like to see that our visions align. Furniture, Custom built-ins, and lighting design is my favorite.

I’m known for the love textures, wallcoverings, timeless and modern designs.

I’m most proud of my humble beginnings – School was incredibly hard, and I started my business all by myself with very little guidance.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband, My Friends, and My Family have helped me get to where I am today. My husband is incredibly supportive. He knows and understands my perfectionist behavior. He helped me in every aspect of pursuing my goals. Without my parents and my great friend Ana’s support in helping me with watching our boys, I’m not sure how I would have accomplished sooo many tasks.
