Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely was not smooth! Early in my career, when trying to open my first bakery, I was discriminated against because of my race. Being the only gay black male bakery owner in the state of Mississippi came with many challenges. I failed my initial inspection 13 times.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creating celebration cakes for all occasions. I also teach hands on and virtual cake and business branding classes.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Honesty, I feel that because I’ve always been so transparent and honest, people have grown to love me and gotten to know the real me because I am relatable.
