Daily Inspiration: Meet Tonya Denmark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonya Denmark.

Hi Tonya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Detail Oriented Traveler when I realized my children had already spent half their childhood with me at age nine. I knew our best family time came from vacations when we are away from daily activities and distractions. I wanted Detail Oriented Traveler to be a source for busy parents to plan their vacations easily. I provide detailed planning advice such as how to travel more. (Hint: it’s getting it on the calendar!) I also review properties and destinations to find those unique hidden gems. Not every vacation needs to be big. Sometimes the small towns have a lot to offer.

Thanks to this mindset, not only do I get to help other families travel more with their kids before they move out, I’ve traveled more with my own kids. We get to experience destinations we may not have thanks to our business. Hopefully, we encourage other families to explore new destinations beyond the major attractions as well as getting away for a weekend or even a day trip.

I love conversations we have around travel. It opens our eyes to new educational opportunities, engaging conversations with our kids, and the much-needed downtime away from school, screens, and activities.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve never looked at challenges as a struggle or a rough road. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, pivot, you name it. Last year when the pandemic hit, travel obviously tanked. I kept working at what I did best, writing about road trips and local travel, knowing that when it came back, I’d be here waiting. Additionally, I pivoted into how you could still “travel from home”. I shared how you could get subscription boxes that cater to travelers, cook your favorite meals from around the world, or learn how to cook those, explore virtual museums, and so much more. Travel isn’t always a 2-week vacation out of the house. It’s a mindset.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
While I’m in the creative field, I specialize in organization. I plan so others don’t have to.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I loved to read. We traveled some, but I craved more adventure. I was outgoing and involved in the theater. For the most part, I was easygoing and loved spending time with those around me. I enjoyed learning, especially when it came to other people’s stories.

I think this love of adventure and performing transitioned perfectly into my business. I’m not afraid to try new things, to talk to new people, and propose new partnerships.
