Daily Inspiration: Meet Yilmaris Rivera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yilmaris Rivera.

Yilmaris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, I always loved fashion it was literally my true passion. After graduating high school, I decided to follow my dream and enroll in a fashion design school and this is where it all began. I graduated with a BA in fashion design and an MBA in marketing. I moved to Orlando in 2016 and worked in management up until March of 2020, where I was let go during a tough time of this nightmare of a pandemic. Not knowing what to do next or where to go after just losing my job Josh believed in my dream and wanted me to finally start my business after seven years of procrastinating. Josh encouraged me to open up Flannel Panels in November of 2020 and I can finally say this has been the best decision I have ever made. In life, everything truly happens for a reason and I am so thankful for this journey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The business has had a few obstacles, one of the major ones was being able to juggle our online business along with working at the farmer’s markets. We went through a phase where we had difficulties trying to maintain the website inventory as well as our inventory at the markets. Our product was selling so fast it became difficult trying to update the site every day along with adding more products.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make custom flannel shirts with designed panel backs for all ages. I specialize in the retro ready to wear vintage fashion Flannel Panels is known for their one of a kind unique panel back designs to every flannel. Josh and I are both very proud of taking the risk of opening up a business during a pandemic and in result, it has been nothing but a true blessing for us. Flannel Panels is willing to go above and beyond for all customers as it is our number one priority to ensure that our customers are fully satisfied with their purchase.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Within the next few years, our goal is to continue venturing out to more local farmer’s markets in all of Florida, as well as opening up a storefront in the Orlando area.
