Daily Inspiration: Meet Yuliya Panchenko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuliya Panchenko.

Hi Yuliya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up in Baku, Azerbaijan, boudoir and floral portrait photography was not what I was thinking about as a career choice. Moving to the states ten years ago changed all of that. Feeling empowered and liberated I wanted others to feel what I felt. My passion is to empower women and build their confidence through photography. In 2013 “Yuliya Panchenko Photography” was founded and continues to grow internationally. After working as a destination wedding photographer known for my cinematic imagery, I found a love for fine art photography. Currently, my main focus is boudoir and floral portraits. I am an ambassador for Elinchrom and my work has won numerous international awards, including WPPI/PPA awards. My photos have been featured and published numerous times in the 2019 PPA Loan Collection.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In 2020, when life slowed down due to quarantine, I took the opportunity to turn the negative time into a positive experience of career and self-growth. Through trial and error, I created my own niche called Botanical Beauties, which are floral portraits that perfectly encompass everything that I wanted to represent with my photography work. Every photoshoot is an experience and transformation with floral arrangements that help create an individualize masterpiece.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Photography is much like a canvas, with every detail carefully curated to compose the final product. Floral portrait is a photography genre that takes it a step further to turn the subject into a work of art before the camera even starts flashing. When creating the Botanical Beauties niche, I sought to create gorgeous, exclusive, and high-end images that would be used as statement framed art pieces and not your typical photo session. From beginning to end, each session is all about my clients and what they are looking for. The concept is personalized to each client’s individual taste and how they want the art to paint them. Some go for an emotional appeal, while other’s main focus revolves around the color and tone of the flower pieces themselves. The end results, though different in mood, all carry the same underlying appeal of nature and beauty coming together.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I become inspired through various works of art. Fashion magazines, short films, and big brand campaigns are some of the most accessible content. I enjoy visiting art museums all over the world and draw connections between my boudoir shoots and the classic sculptural figures. Nude statues help envision posing and the minimalistic shapes when being photographed.
