Exploring Life & Business with Jamie O’Neill of Merigold Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie O’Neill.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My partner and I launched our business in November 2020. Like many other entrepreneurs, I didn’t think I would be one! Before launching Merigold Creative, I worked in retail for over a decade, with a portion of that time in bridal fashion, working at various bridal boutiques in Orlando. During my time as a Bridal Stylist and then Fashion Director, I was balancing classes and work, which helped me uncover my passion for small business and PR and marketing.

While discovering this passion, I graduated from the University of Central Florida with my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Communication in August 2020. Like many other recent college graduates, finding a job in the midst of a pandemic was a daunting task. Online applications, Zoom interviews and hiring freezes made looking for the perfect position nearly impossible. After months of frustration with searching for a new career, I was approached by a local wedding industry colleague who was also in the same position as me. When indoor dining was available again, we began meeting weekly over coffee to discuss our goals and dreams. During these meetings, we decided to create positions that weren’t available to us. Only a few months later, we opened Merigold Creative, a marketing and PR agency in Central Florida that specializes in industries including weddings, retail, beauty, fashion, and beyond.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles don’t entirely scare me as they create space to learn and grow. I am also a firm believer in the idea that sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. Although we are a ‘baby business’ in comparison to other small businesses, I would say things have been smooth so far. The struggles that we have encountered so far have actually been blessings in disguise, so for that, I am grateful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Merigold Creative?
Merigold Creative is a boutique Marketing and PR Agency located in Central Florida. We currently serve the Orlando area and beyond! We have been lucky to work with clients who are located in New York and California. Our marketing services include social media management, content creation, copywriting, website development, blogging, email marketing, ad collateral, and more. Our PR services range from influencer relations, community outreach, coordination of product launches, editorial coverage, and grand openings with styled shoots, events, and more.

With my background in retail and styling, I also offer a professional personal styling service as well as and photoshoot styling, which has been used for company headshots, updating company dress code policies, event attire, and networking events. My partner, Lauren Whalley, and I both have backgrounds in weddings, retail, editorial, and fashion. Because of our unique, specialized backgrounds, many of our clients fall into these industries! We collaborate with our clients to create unique services packages that work best for their company specifically. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter marketing and PR as one size doesn’t fit all!

Any big plans?
For now, our team consists of myself and my partner, Lauren. With us, we are able to get a lot done, but I dream of the brand to be a place of different positions, people, and endless creative ideas. We currently run Merigold Creative out of hour homes, but we dream to have an office one day, even if it’s a quaint place for our team to have a meeting spot. With many companies closing their doors to offices, we understand the benefits of not having one, but I still love the idea of having a place to call home. We also wish for Merigold to be a place for all things branding, marketing, and PR. We’d love to have a large team of experts and artists to create and craft branding material to pair with our marketing services and strategies. Having more creative solutions for our clients means our clients can be served in more ways.
