Exploring Life & Business with Kimberli Lane of Mimosas & Moonshine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberli Lane.

Hi Kimberli, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
“Necessity is the mother of invention” Mimosas & Moonshine is a mother-daughter duo that all started because Sharra dreamed of gorgeous farmhouse tables for her backyard wedding. At the time nowhere offered farmhouse tables for rent, so Kimberli took on the massive task of building them (best mama ever!) After the wedding, several recently engaged friends asked to use them and so Mimosas & Moonshine was born. Since then, we’ve added to and evolved our collection. Kimberli loves antiques and eclectic pieces so she is always on the hunt for our next piece!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not completely. A year and a half into our business we had our trailer stolen from our warehouse. It had all of our farmhouse tables, a few of our favorite vintage furniture pieces, and several extremely sentimental pieces from Kimberli’s personal antique collection. We never found the trailer or any of our inventory. With several weddings booked, we had to rebuild all of our tables!

As you know, we’re big fans of Mimosas & Moonshine. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a family-run full-service event rental boutique. We offer everything from farmhouse tables and place setting to vintage furniture and stunning architectural backdrops. All of our tables, arches, arbors, and signs are handmade with love by us. We are at every single event setting up, and we are dedicated to each of our clients and creating their vision.

Can you talk about how you think about risk?
We would not consider ourselves risk-takers. However, we took a huge risk in starting this business. We have put everything back into the company and even bought (not leased) a warehouse for our inventory in the first year. When our trailer was stolen, we looked at each other and recommitted to the business. We took the risk and it was time to follow through: we pulled up our big girl pants and rebuilt every table (and then some). The risk has paid off, and we are so proud of putting everything back into the business and building it bigger every day.
