Exploring Life & Business with Miquia Thompson of Pathways To Revelation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miquia Thompson.

Hi Miquia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It was a vision from our prayers. Pathways To Revelation was exactly a revelation given to both of us through our prayer lives. As kids, both our parents would not only help us but help those around them through their acts of service. Seeing their work ethic showed us to push ourselves to do the same by doing what we loved to do. Although our lives had taken different paths, we somehow joined forces again at the Bethune-Cookman University, where we learned, “Enter To Learn, Depart To Serve.”

We both later continued our education at Nova Southeastern University with our Master’s degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While obtaining our degrees, we learn that leadership skills and commitment to our community was going to be a very important key to reaching others. Who We Are I, Miquia Thompson-Lubin, have always been known as strong, compassionate, dedicated, and determined person willing to do anything I set my mind to. I am a wife and mother of three kings. Throughout my matriculation in life, I have always been passionate about the need to help others see the potential in their everyday obstacles. I realized that I had challenged myself to help those who felt no one else would, which is what I called the “underdog.” I pride myself in helping patients by providing resources, guiding through counsel and assisting them in achieving long-term stability. Prior to becoming a primary therapist at Discovery Mood & Anxiety Program and CEO of Pathways To Revelation, my counseling background was diverse.

I have worked as a psychotherapist in various program settings such as state regional juvenile justice system with at-risk youth, residential facility working with teen addictions and working in the school system. After working with children and teens, I decided to open my scope of practice and began serving the adult population who have behavioral and mental health issues in an in-patient crisis stabilization unit and in the state prison system. Over the years, I have worked with many patients in the areas of substance abuse, anxiety, trauma, anger management and depression. I, Destiny Thompson-Clarke am a very caring, eloquent, and goal-oriented person. I am a wife and mother of two sons. After completing both my undergraduate and graduate studies with honors, I started my career in child welfare. At the time, I was a single mother of an infant. Working in this field helped me understand the importance of stability in childhood development and how your family and society play an important role on who you choose to become. I transitioned into working in mental health while pursuing my graduate studies. I advocated for children and adults with various mental health diagnoses, educational exceptionalities, trauma, and substance abuse history.

My passion led me to the Department of Corrections, where I served as the clinical mental health coordinator for incarcerated males in an inpatient setting. Today I am a Correctional Services Consultant where I counsel Title I inmates (at-risk youth) and encourage them to get their high school diplomas and participate in vocational opportunities while incarcerated. My goal is to help them with reentry efforts to tackle the recidivism rates within the State of Florida prison system. My overall objective is to move further in my endeavors in my private practice assessing, counseling, and assisting individuals in obtaining structure and providing them with the resources needed to assist them in achieving long-term stability within society by our private practice motto a changed path through a changed mind.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Quite the contrary! We both experienced delay and fear on our path to revelation. We dealt with struggles on if our business would be successful and battling our own insecurities. However, based on our personalities, we decided to get on our horse, take a leap of faith, and never looked back because there were people in our communities who desperately needed our help. At Pathways To Revelation, we stand firm on our founding scriptures in Revelation Chapter 19.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
We took a risk by starting the business without having a location at first. We realized that risks are essential to learning valuable lessons on how to grow and expand. We now have the mindset that when we do something, we do it even if we are afraid. For what do we have to lose, nothing but if we do not try, we could miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime.
