Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald Parks.
Hi Reginald, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I initially moved to the Orlando area from Raleigh, NC, where I studied at North Carolina State University. I started working as just an intern like most stories begin. I actually moved here just a few days after knowing I had not been accepted to a closer job with one of my favorite universities in the area as well as my alma mater. It ended up being a blessing in disguise. After a short stint as an intern, I worked my way up to becoming an internal creative for a sports marketing and event company. I did this by identifying the need for a creative within the company and learning all of the necessary programs to truly be valuable there. It always helps to check out a companies budget and see how your skills can improve the bottomline, and that is exactly what I did. I found my calling while designing videos, graphics and more for the firm. I went from barely knowing how to make a flier to being able to aluminate the Amway center with 3D graphics, sponsorship activations and more within nine months. I left that company and I started my firm in 2016 and have not looked back since.
We initially started out doing graphic design and video projects for small businesses. We have now grown to have web development capabilities, licensed drone pilots and the capacity to lead a business through the entire marketing process. I am proud to say that we work with the City of Orlando on projects as well as some other notable companies both locally and nationally. I’d like to say that this has been a process of continued learning, growth and patience. I have been learning each step of the way. I actually went back to get my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Herzing University Orlando while growing the business to ensure that I had the right business acumen to truly build a business. I was honored with the opportunity to give our graduating class commencement speech and actually served as a marketing spokesperson for the college all over the country in the form of billboards and marketing material. It has been fun, and it is only getting better.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I believe that in entrepreneurship, bumps are what allow you to be knocked down and re-evaluate and re-focus. Without the bumps of slow times, not knowing if we would make it, or simply not being sure of our company, I think that as a business owner I may not have tightened up and made things work the way that they have thus far. Some of the initial struggles are securing clients that will keep the company afloat. This task is always easier said than done. Marketing a marketing agency sounds easy, though without a set of clients or a resume, it is hard for anyone to get a job. It took some trust from our initial clients and some great presentations of past personal work to get in the door. It is always important to be confident in your ability to simply get the job done. If you know that no matter what, you can get it done and that you will work to make sure it is the best possible, you are already halfway there in a sale. Additional struggles are always organization.
I am a very organized person, though in business is it important to take a little while to concentrate on a detailed plan then stick to it. Adding team members and having a budget add to the details of an organization. When you are a solopreneur, you have to act as if you run a far larger operation. This was a struggle at first, but I had to act the part even when no one was looking in order to see it in our company enough to market it as such. Other than that, we did not have any additional struggles. We hit the ground running and made sure that every item was in place for us to grow and help our clients. I am proud of everything that we overcame in finding a great team and finding great clients that align with what we want to do long term. I am proud of everything that I personally accomplished but more excited for what is to come.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My company is Reality Marketing Group, LLC. We specialize in web design, branding, video marketing and overall marketing strategy. We are known for our design that aligns with businesses needs not only aesthetically but functionally. We stand out with our work and with our ability to find a solution for all company sizes. We are most proud of our ability to work with all industries to find a way to make their company succeed online and off. Reality Marketing Group is the company to come to if you are looking to get it all done. Working with our clients is like reconnecting with family. We know that this is not a transactional relationship but a long-term one where we would like to be your source for anything creative in a way that helps you grown and in term helps us grow as well.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think that the most surprising thing that people might not know is that I am very laid back and love just being with the family and enjoying home and outdoors. Usually a marketing or salesperson can be quite extraverted, but I am the opposite when it comes to my real life. I enjoy making things simple and easy, and I think that in some way that is what our clients are looking for also.
