Exploring Life & Business with Chris Miller of Full Swing Physical Therapy & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Miller.

Hi Chris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Charlotte, NC, and played every sport I could, finishing High School and having played Varsity Basketball, Baseball, and Golf.

My obsession with golf (if you’re a golfer, you know what I mean) started in the Spring of 1997. I was struggling with a little leaguer’s elbow when I pitched more than a few innings, was burnt out from travel baseball, and Tiger Woods won the Masters by 12 shots. I knew then that golf would be a major part of my life.

My fascination with the golf swing and the mechanics of human movement almost led me down the path of becoming a teaching pro, but after finishing college at UGA (2021 National Champs!), I ultimately chose to get my Doctorate in Physical Therapy so I could help people recover from injuries, get back to doing the activities they love without pain and enjoy life again.

After 12 years of working as an employee, in an inefficient healthcare system that prioritizes profit over quality of care and quality of life for employees, I had enough.

Our first son, Max, was diagnosed with autism at age 2.5, and with his daily routine of therapies, supplements, and doctor’s appointments, I knew that the rigidity of working for others would not allow me to be there for my son and my family.

I also knew that there was a better way to help people to get rid of back pain, arthritis, knee pain, and other common problems. I had to break free of the restraints that insurance companies put on patients and providers.

With the love and support (and mountains of patience) from my wife, and the encouragement of my business coaches, I was able to launch my private practice, Full Swing Physical Therapy and Wellness, where I’m lucky and blessed to be able to follow my passion:

I love Helping Golfers to Play Pain-Free, hit it Longer, and Play for Longer.

Working with clients I love, in the way it should be done, has been immensely satisfying, and enjoyable, and I’m love seeing the amazing transformations that my clients, including weekend golfers, mini-tour pros, and Korn Ferry Tour players, and PGA Tour players, are making!

I’m excited about the people I’ve been able to meet, the golf I’ve been able to play, and the future of helping golfers of all ages and levels.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has not been easy or smooth. Shifting my mindset from employee to business owner was a big adjustment.

The time management and organization (two of my biggest weaknesses) of having to learn the basics of marketing, accounting, networking, etc. while working with clients has been and continues to be, my biggest challenge.

Adding in a family and a special needs child at home, it definitely hasn’t been smooth or easy, but there’s nothing I’d rather be doing!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
It’s my passion to help golfers to play pain-free, hit it longer, and play for longer.

I love helping people like Doug, 55 y/o, who started working with me when “stiffness was a fact of life…just getting out of bed was a struggle, and the day after playing golf I always had a slow recovery”. He was also frustrated at his loss of distance off the tee, and not playing as well as he knew he could because of body limitations and stiffness.

After a few months of working with me every week, Doug was 20+ yards longer with his driver, he was a full club longer with his irons, and “I’m looser, more flexible, and a lot stronger, with no morning-after soreness.”

Doug went on to finish 3rd in the world in the Master’s Division of the Amateur Long Drive tournament!

I start all of my clients with a golf-specific assessment to evaluate each person’s flexibility, mobility, strength, club head speed, and detailed testing of any problem areas (back pain, hip stiffness, shoulder, etc.).

Then, using hands-on techniques and exercises to improve flexibility, mobility, strength, and speed, I help each of my clients to optimize their bodies for golf, to play without pain, regain confidence, and avoid recurring injuries.

I work with clients in-person in Winter Park, online via video calls, and for the DIY-ers, I have a 3 Week Golf Flexibility Program.

I always update my social media and YouTube with tips to relieve back pain, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, etc. with golf, so follow me!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
With few exceptions, your life and your happiness are entirely up to you. If you have a passion, follow it. People will try to talk you out of it or say it’s not a good idea, but if you have a burning desire, determination, and persistence, it’s possible!
