Today we’d like to introduce you to David.
Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is David and I am the founder of Real Bean Coffee Co. I have always been known to have a deep appreciation for coffee. To me, it is more than just something you drink to help you wake up. A good cup of coffee is the underlying factor of a good conversation, a business startup, a relationship, a gathering of neighbors, and a successful day.
I launched Real Bean Coffee Co in the middle of 2020. The mission is to bring awareness to the beautiful art that is Artisan Coffee. There’s so much more to this precious fruit; an entire livelihood is behind it. We pay premium price for our coffee to ensure that the growers receive a livable wage, along with everyone that takes part in the process of getting that delicious espresso to your cup.
Through time, a big number of coffee drinkers have loss touch with what good coffee is supposed to taste like and instead associate bitterness and burnt flavors to quality. Which is very much not the case. Unfortunately, in order to mass-produce, a certain level of quality must be sacrificed. We started by only selling fresh roasted coffee beans. Unfortunately, we run on a shoestring budget, and advertising costs along with everything else proved growth to be difficult. In October of 2020, I came up with the crazy idea of buying a Fiat 500 and converting it into a mobile coffee shop to help bring brand awareness. A weird enough concept with no guarantee of success that would need to take all my savings in order to launch.
Despite the odds, I decided to pursue the idea. Found a Fiat 500, took everything out of it and started building. After a lot of coffee, headaches, and impasses, The Bean launched in November 2020. Self-sufficient, quiet, and compact. (Don’t try this at home). I would initially park in certain corners with a few signs and hope that people would stop and try it out, and I would also do deliveries. Usually starting at 6 am and ending the day between 6-8 pm. That slowly turned into doing markets in certain days. Fast forward to now, We just opened are first daily location in Edgewater, which consists of bringing the car inside a venue on a daily basis and turning it into a coffee shop; we also still continue to do events in Downtown Orlando.
We still only serve our own brand of freshly roasted coffee, still run on a shoestring budget, but love every minute of it. Seeing our customer’s reactions every time they taste our coffee is worth all the sacrifices that have been made along the way. We hope to eventually have a full location of our own. However, being able to currently provide free Wi-Fi, indoor & outdoor seating, and AC is a huge blessing.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Licensing was very difficult, designing a system that can produce enough electricity to run the machines was a battle, along with building the water management system. Keeping in mind that I am not an engineer, nor a mechanic, nor an electrician, or a carpenter.. I am just a stubborn dreamer with a coffee addiction.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a small coffee company. We sell and serve fresh roasted artisan coffee. Our beans are ethically sourced, and we pay premium prices to ensure the farmers have livable wages. We do our best to provide the best service and take special care in every cup we serve. We are also vegan friendly and offer several dairy alternatives. What sets us apart is that we genuinely love what we do and have a high level of appreciation for all the love and support we’ve received from our clients.
How do you define success?
Success is waking up in the morning excited to encounter the day. During both good and bad times. Once you are able to wake up and have the mindset that you will continue to move forward regardless of what the day brings, you have successfully taken control of your live and are now unstoppable.
