Exploring Life & Business with Jennifer Biggins of Independently Developing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Biggins.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Jennifer Biggins is originally from Cordele, Georgia but lives in the Orlando area. She graduated from Lake Region High school in Eagle Lake, Florida. Ms. Biggins realized her passions were taking care of others, after interacting with children while working at the Department of Children and Families for Protective Services. It was her determination and love-filled heart that led her into caring for special needs adults and children. The experiences and challenges of both being a victim of domestic violence and a single mother, gave Jennifer a deeper appreciation and determination for improving the quality of her life. Jennifer was then given the ultimate test of life. Jennifer lost her oldest son in 2012. She learned: Life is the fine line of faith; being ready for whatever unknown comes into your path, all while running a company.
In memory of her son, in 2019 Jennifer started a nonprofit camp for special needs children under the age of 21 during spring, summer and winter breaks. Jennifer has been a notary, a process server, and a signing agent since 2015. Being a single parent of three children Jennifer learned that having multiple streams of income will go a long way. Jennifer has dedicated her life to her work and children while dealing with Life’s challenges.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Unfortunately no, my life has not been an easy road. Being a young single parent while still in high school. Losing my first best friend(sister) to cancer. Emotional, Physical damage due to domestic violence in 2011 and 2018. Losing a child on fathers day, 30 minutes after speaking with his daddy in 2012. Being rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Having Friends and family not supporting you for the levels of your life. The lesson along the way is to stay true to yourself continue to take life one challenge at a time no matter who supporting you or not.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Independently Developing?
Independently Developing a New Way, Inc, that was established in 2009 and located in the Central Florida region. She provides home and community-based services. Michael Hearts Academy. Michael Hearts Academy was started in October 2019. Michael Hearts Academy increases social skills in individuals with intellectual disabilities (i.e., Autism) by providing different activities in the community with a focus on daily living skills to enhance their lives. We also educate the community and bring awareness to these disabilities. Michael Hearts Academy was created to represent the passionate love Michael Nelson had for others. He would help and give his utmost to anyone. Michael’s unfortunate drowning accident caused his loss of life at the age of 14 on June 17, 2012. This hardship became the platform to help individuals with disabilities because one does not always know when they are hurting or in danger in the world.
