Exploring Life and Business with Jose Tapia of Mr. Cleans Detailing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Tapia.

Hi Jose, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My family has always taught me to have honor and the highest work ethic possible in whatever job I do. I have always had a passion for cars, but an even deeper obsession for CLEAN cars. It all started when I worked with Teph Seal at 19, where I learned and loved the basics of how to properly care for the cleanliness of a car.

A little more than a decade later, I found myself working on the project of building an older car, this is where I had to put cleaning, detailing, and mold removal techniques to use. I realized how much I loved restoring the cleanliness of the car. I was able to bring the car back to life, better than it had ever looked before! This is where I fell in love with detailing, once again. I noticed that attention to detail and cleanliness are in my blood and personality, so when I got the opportunity to become an apprentice with a car detailing skilled master, I took it. I worked with him for months, regaining, learning, and engrossing all the information about every product, technique and tool regarding the craft.

Soon after, using my hard-earned savings, I was able to start my own Car Detailing Business and as an entrepreneur, I was able to successfully pursue my passion, Mr. Cleans Detailing!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is ever a smooth one! I accepted that there was going to be a struggle in building my own business from the ground up, but I was ready for the challenge.

The first challenge I encountered: Car detailing is a highly competitive business! I had to establish and still have to consistently practice a way to thoughtfully stand out from the other various car detailing businesses here in the Orlando area.

The second challenge: The Car Detailing business is not always consistent. Car Washing is a luxury service, it’s not always something people will need and there are definitely days where business can be slow (juxtaposed next to days where there is way more business that can completed in a 14-16 hour day!). Also, Weather plays a huge factor, which may sometimes get in the way of being able to wash and clean a car.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mr. Cleans Detailing?
Mr. Cleans Detailing This business focuses on washing and detailing cars in ANY condition!

Currently, I am the owner, operator and employee who focuses on running this business but also completes every job and each piece of paperwork (and even the schedule) of the company.

We focus on the cleanliness of cars, trucks, business vans/semis, any type of motor vehicle. We have completed anything from paint restoration, headlight restorations to hard water stain removal, even advertising sticker/adhesive removal. There’s nothing we can’t do!

What I am most proud of is that as a detailer, I take extreme pride in what I do and I show this through the passion of my detailed skill and knowledgeable labors! But what really sets me apart is the fact that I am an active member of the community of car detailers, as I am conscious to help out other car detailers by promoting them or even sending them extra work. I do this at no charge because I honor and respect the work that we do!

How do you think about happiness?
Owning my very own business gives me a happiness that I cannot explain. For my personal goals, being an entrepreneur has helped me achieve a sense of what freedom means to me. Being successfully self-employed allows me to be the creator of my own domain, which has always been one of my life goals. Another thing that brings me pure joy is to see the smiles on the faces of my Mom and Mrs. Cleans because they are proud of my accomplishments.
