Today we’d like to introduce you to Juhi Patel.
Hi Juhi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started pursuing a career in aesthetics towards the end of last year. I have a Bachelor’s degree is in Mechanical Engineering from UCF and a Master’s degree in Flight Test Engineering from FIT. I worked at a defense company as a System Test Engineer for 2 years but ultimately decided that I would enjoy a long-term career as an aesthetician much more. I was inspired to delve deeper into this field by my mom. She taught herself eyebrow threading when she was 15, and she along with my dad opened up Kiran’s Eyebrow Threading here in Lakeland 8 years ago. The business has been a success, easily more successful than any of us thought it would’ve been. Her success is what made me confident about leaving engineering and becoming a small business owner. She taught me how to thread eyebrows 4 years ago, and currently, my parents and I run the salon together. When I am not working, I am learning other services that I can provide clients. I hope to open up my own salon in the near future, and am grateful that I have my mom and dad to guide and support me in this endeavor.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles I faced as an engineering student and employee were entirely different from the struggles I am facing now. While I love the freedom that comes with working in/owning a small business, that also means that there is no structured path and guidelines for success that come with corporate jobs. While I am confident in the services I provide for our clients, my biggest struggle is marketing myself as a new aesthetician to build up clientele. Another struggle is learning how I will independently manage a business when I open up my own salon. Both of these struggles will take time and dedication to overcome, but I am very optimistic about my future in this industry.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kiran’s Eyebrow Threading?
Currently, my dad, mom, and I work together at Kiran’s Eyebrow Threading. We are best known for eyebrow threading but offer many other services, such as lash/eyebrow tinting, facials, permanent makeup, waxing, etc. I think what sets us apart from others is our customer service and work ethic. We try our best to make sure our clients are satisfied with their service before leaving the salon, and pay extreme attention to detail when shaping brows. I know it’s technically just facial hair, but well-shaped brows have such a big impact on face structure and I love seeing clients leave feeling confident again after visiting us! We’re really proud of our client retention. Many of our clients have been coming to us regularly for years. Threading isn’t as commonly practiced in the U.S. as waxing for brow shaping, so we want readers to know that if they haven’t given eyebrow threading a try, try it (hopefully with us)! Shaping brows with thread as opposed to wax gives more precision and definition to the brow shape, so the results often look very different. And threading isn’t just for women, it’s for men, too. We can give brows a masculine shape for men, and the results will last longer than shaving around the eyebrows.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think people care about their appearance and grooming today more than ever. I can see that trend increasing more and more over time. The cosmetic, aesthetic, and beauty industry definitely isn’t going anywhere, and it’ll likely continue growing at a fast rate. I think it’s a great time to pursue a career in this industry. New services are being introduced to the industry all the time and I am excited to see what comes next!
