Exploring Life & Business with Karen Anderson of Because Events Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Anderson.

Hi Karen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As an event professional for over 20 years and an avid concertgoer, I wanted to have a space where I can let people know when the next concert was coming to the area or what events they SHOULD attend, so they don’t have FOMO when the pictures on social media came out. :).

I always had a love for photography as my dad was a fashion photographer before we moved from Toronto to Orlando in the late 80s. For me, being able to watch my favorite artists up close and personal and capture their performance moments in real time was something that I was always interested in.

When I was in college, I was the Activities Coordinator in the Student Government Association at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I helped curate our Springfest and the first off-campus homecoming concert where I was able to bring Ludacris, Trina, Ruff Endz, and Rickey Smiley as our host, from there, the love of live music and production started.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a woman in the entertainment industry is hard enough… continuously having to prove that you are legit and credible and having thick skin in a male-dominated industry. When the pandemic hit, there were NO shows or events happening. For someone whose sole focus of their business come to a complete halt, it was hard to figure out what was next. Having to pivot to virtual for about a year really gave us a chance to really figure out what our audience wanted and how they were consuming entertainment.

We’ve been impressed with Because of Events Rock LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Because Events Rock is the go-to source for everything hip hop and R&B live music. Helping our viewers discover new music, concert pics, and videos, your tour guide to what concerts are coming to your town making it easy for you to go to concerts. I am an avid concertgoer and concert photographer and work with artists and promoters to help spread the word about upcoming events.

Because Events Rock is a lifestyle blog that focuses on providing quality event listings, artist interviews, and entertainment news. We work to connect our readers with their favorite artists in the business. If you are a concert promoter, we want to help you promote your event and give it the exposure it deserves. We are devoted to giving you, our fans, the best experience possible when attending any Hip Hop or R&B live music event.

As an authorized Ticketmaster vendor, we are able to curate hip hop and R&B show listings in one place instead of having to search for shows in your area. We promote, represent, and market Hip Hop and R&B artists, concerts, festivals, and events. The primary source of entertainment for our demographic is live events, concerts & festivals, so we feel privileged to be one of a kind.

On high event weekends (i.e. Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Weekend, Essence Festival, etc.), we also curate one-stop-shop event guides, so attendees know what events are going on in the city.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
On of my favorite childhood memories was when I made the competition and performance team at my dance studio. My group was hired for a variety of local shows and regional competitions. We got to perform at the Southern Women’s Show, community events, and other special performances. We got to perform during the All-Star game and had a great time. Through that experience, I continued my dance career all the way through college.
