Hidden Gems: Meet Abby Hamdan of Beauty Care by Abby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Hamdan.

Hi Abby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Abby, a mother of two beautiful girls and a licensed esthetician in the state of Florida, and co-founder of Beauty Care by Abby Spa. I’ve always knew since I was a teenager that I was very passionate about everything that has to do with the beauty industry. I’ve always loved doing face masks and tried mixing different ingredients right from the kitchen. However, time went by and I’ve received my Bachelor’s in Business, but I knew that my heart belonged for skin care. Two years fast forward, I decided to pursue a career in real estate which didn’t last very long either. So, one day I woke up while I was pregnant with my 2nd child and decided to become an esthetician; that was the best decision that I’ve ever made! I’ve received my license and went back for an advanced program which was a total of 900 credited hours. As soon as I graduated, I started my business renting a room at a spa and now three years into the business I’m finally growing and expanding and will be opening my first storefront. I truly love what I do, I help many women, teenagers, and men feel comfortable in their own skin. I’m here to teach everyone that you can be beautiful and maintain a healthy lifestyle and a glowing skin just by a monthly facial and a good home skin regimen. I teach women of color on how to care for their skin; sometimes, that could be complicated because of their Fitzpatrick. I’m so happy where I am today. I grew so much into my business, and I’m still growing, and I grew so much as a mommy of two. Key point, skincare is definitely a journey, and I am here to take that journey with you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely hasn’t been a smooth road; for the first year of business, I wasn’t making any money or seeing many clients, but I never gave up. I looked at it as I was still learning while I was working. Starting new is definitely difficult, but within time things do get better.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Beauty Care by Abby is a very unique business; the reason for that is because I make every and each client feel special, and each treatment is customized just for them. I take the time to educate them about their skin, their diet, products, and their lifestyle. Being an esthetician isn’t about getting a licensed and do the same facials on all. I take so much time investing into new classes and research. The key in our business is to make the client feel comfortable and to trust you.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Honestly, the best resource that helped me is me. Learning forms my mistakes and always researching. The only time I do read is definitely has to do with the beauty industry. I’m constantly researching and see what treatments or products I can bring or do.
