Hidden Gems: Meet Amanda Rainear of Dovetail Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Rainear.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I first became interested in event planning when I heard a wedding planner compare her job to that of a stage manager. Coming from a background in theater, I love the idea of putting on a show, and all of the moving parts that come together to make a live performance happen are the same that go into an event or wedding. I became intrigued by the idea of event planning for this reason, coupled with the fact that I am extremely detail-oriented and a perfectionist to a fault. However, it wasn’t until several years later that I actually pursued that interest.

My husband is a niche wedding vendor, and through the years, I have seen the way he is treated by most wedding planners. He is often forgotten or left out of important announcements leading up to the wedding, and his job is actually made harder by many of the planners he works with. I knew something had to be done to create a service that treated all event vendors with the same level of consideration. I started my event planning journey by earning my Wedding Planning Certification from the Bridal Society in January 2020. I started Dovetail Events with a very specific purpose in mind. I want everyone, from the youngest event guest to the event clean-up crew and everyone in between, to have the same uniform experience. When every detail is given equal attention, everyone wins. That’s why my slogan is “Dovetail Your Details,” because Dovetail Events creates a seamless experience for everyone who we have the pleasure to work with, and no detail- no matter how small- is left in question. Today, Dovetail Events has just passed its one-year anniversary, and we have had so many wonderful experiences and met so many talented wedding pros and beautiful couples in the process. I can’t wait to see what the future brings!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle, of course, was launching my business just a few weeks before the pandemic hit. Navigating the normal bumps and hiccups of starting a new venture was made much more complex with the toll that the pandemic took on the events industry. However, the Central Florida wedding pro community is the best there is, and everyone came together to forge a path forward through the uncertainty. While the first few months were difficult, I feel that I have been shaped by many of the same experiences as anyone else who has just passed their first year in business, and I am all the better for that. Additionally, being a wedding planner is nothing if not being prepared to face constant uncertainty head-on and deliver quick solutions, so, if nothing else, I actually feel as if my first year gave me multiple years’-worth of experience.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Dovetail Events is a wedding and event planning company I founded in January 2020. I specialize in month-of wedding coordination, but I also offer full and partial planning as well as planning for non-wedding events and design expertise. I’ve been told what sets me apart from others is my demeanor and level of calm during events. I get referred to as “the most chill wedding planner ever” at almost every event I coordinate. Brand-wise, I am most proud of what my company represents and the strong and specific mission behind Dovetail Events’ name. We pride ourselves on being obsessive about details and thoroughly communicative (sometimes to a fault) in order to cross every t and dot every I. After all, I can only be a “chill” wedding planner on event day if I’ve labored over timelines, floor plans and checklists to the point that I can rest assured that things will go forward correctly. 

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
While I’m so proud of my Dovetail brand, it wasn’t my original name choice! Before I decided on Dovetail Events, I wanted to name my business Hummingbird Events. However, I found another Hummingbird Events in Orlando when I was coming up with my name. While that business seemed dormant, I didn’t want to take any chances in being a duplicate of another business in the same area. I liked Hummingbird Events for a very similar reason that I ended up choosing Dovetail Events. Hummingbirds are one of the most important parts of their ecosystem for their ability to pollinate so many plants, which I thought this was such a perfect metaphor for how a great wedding planner should behave. As an homage to my original idea, my partial wedding planning package is named “the Hummingbird package”!
