Hidden Gems: Meet Candace Battle of The Event Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Battle.

Hi Candace, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For nearly 20 years, events have written some of my life’s greatest chapters. I first fell in love with logistics while planning corporate events and meetings globally. I started in event execution as an Assistant Catering Manager at Kennedy Space Center in 2006. I soon transitioned to Banquet Manager at Walt Disney World in 2007. It was at Walt Disney World where I learned about service excellence; to under promise, and over deliver, and always exceed the client’s expectations. After several years, I was curious about planners and why they were so passionate about their events. Exploratively, I became a meeting planner with the Institute of Internal Auditors in 2011. Eventually, through the Convention Industry Council, I became a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP).

In 2016, life happened; I got married, had a baby, and decided traveling across the country was no longer for me. I became a Catering Sales Manager at Westin Lake Mary selling corporate events in 2017. Next, I had an opportunity to open a hotel. This is a huge feat in my profession. It’s very rare that a brand new hotel comes along waving at you. I jumped at the chance and became Catering Sales Manager at Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach. I quickly found myself selling weddings instead of corporate events. I sold countless weddings, continuously exceeding my booking goals and received a promotion to Director of Catering and Events. I can truly say that weddings fell in my lap. In the blink of an eye, I traded meetings and conferences for meaningful ceremonies, beautiful details, and unforgettable first dances. All of my clients wanted to continue their relationship with me after their wedding was booked. They wondered why I couldn’t be their wedding planner and so it happened. I started asking myself why I couldn’t be a wedding planner. I took the plunge and started my own wedding planning company in 2019.

I became a Certified Wedding Planner through The Bridal Society, the nation’s leading organization of Certified Wedding Planners. Next, I became a Master Certified Wedding Planner through The Bridal Society. The timing was perfect; starting a business with a full-time job can be overwhelming. As it happened, a global pandemic caused millions of people to be furloughed, myself included. Being furloughed allowed me to focus all of my time and energy on getting my business solidly grounded. I can honestly say, throughout this pandemic, my business has grown significantly. My true passion is coming to life, right before my eyes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is always full of lessons to be learned. I believe you become a better version of yourself if you learn from your experiences. It has definitely been a wild ride but I appreciate every obstacle, curveball, peak, and valley. Being furloughed for almost a year has been challenging. I have had a steady job since graduating college in 2005. In the blink of an eye, to suddenly be unemployed was quite the curveball. However, it continuously challenges me to become a greater business owner, wife, and mother.

I am the Owner and Master Certified Wedding Planner with The Event Company, an award-winning wedding planning company based in Central Florida, specializing in all things wedding. From Month-of-Coordination to Full-Service Planning, I strive to create timeless, elegant, and chic experiences that are memorable for each couple. I take care of the details, so couples don’t have to. I have been featured in Orange Blossom Bride, Wedding Venue Map, Every Last Detail, Tacari Weddings, Popsugar, Bride Chic, Atlanta Style Wedding – The Celebration Society, Brides and Weddings, Wedding Forward, and a host of others. As a Master Certified Wedding Planner, I have gone through extensive training to ensure that I provide the absolute best experience for my couples. Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
It’s important to recognize and appreciate those who are trailblazers in this industry. I strongly encourage active participation in wedding organizations and associations. Lastly, connecting with a mentor is a must. Choose someone who is successful, who is caring and is willing to assist you professionally.
