Hidden Gems: Meet Sherrell Riley of Winiva Liability Resolutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrell Riley.

Hi Sherrell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Mompreneur. I own four businesses (Winiva Liability Resolutions, Niva Signing Service, Winiva Demands and Niva Ad Management) and have two sons, ages 8 and 14. I lost my mother due to breast cancer at 19 and do not have any other blood family here so failure has never been an option for me. I am very ambitious and have always worked hard to accomplish my goals. The name Winiva is a combination of my Grandma, Sister, Late Mother and my middle names. The WI represents my Grandma and Sister, the NI represents me and the VA represents my Mother.

Although I had my first business at the age of 8, my journey to becoming an entrepreneur began when I graduated from UCF in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. It took me 7 ½ years to get my degree and there were semesters where I was working two jobs and could only take 1 or 2 classes. Despite not being your typical college student, I finally made it to the finish line.

While looking for a job in Finance, I came across a Bodily Injury Adjuster position at one of the major insurance companies. The position paid $50k plus bonuses annually, and it was a lot more than the current Finance jobs that I was coming across. The investigative nature of it also really piqued my interest. At the time, I did not have a background in insurance but decided to go for it and was offered a position on my second attempt. Despite me not having a background in insurance or any internships under my belt, they were very impressed with my diverse background. The onboarding process was very long, and I officially began working as a bodily injury adjuster January 2016. While working as an adjuster, I learned a lot about the insurance industry. They would often send us out of town for extensive training, and I became extremely knowledgeable in the entire claims process and different coverages. In December 2017, I decided to switch sides and began working as a personal injury paralegal at a law firm. I really enjoyed working as a personal injury paralegal and was much happier due to being able to help accident victims get the maximum compensation for their injuries as opposed to how I felt as an adjuster. I was handed approximately 150 cases my first week as a personal injury paralegal, and I had to hit the ground running without any formal training. Thankfully, I was a natural and did very well. While working as a personal injury paralegal, I discovered that I was really good at drafting demands and overcoming liability denials. My knowledge when it came to overcoming liability denials is what ultimately led to me launching Winiva Liability Resolutions. There is not another company out here like it and with my expertise, I knew I would be able to help a lot of people.

Helping accident victims is something that I am very passionate about, and I ultimately would like to become a personal injury attorney myself.

In addition to Winiva Liability Resolutions, I own Winiva Demands, Niva Ad Management and Niva Signing Service. I decided that Niva Signing Service was a great way to make money while I got Winiva Liability Resolutions off the ground. I was watching YouTube around April and came across an ad that talked about notary signing agents making $200.00 an hour. I was already in the process of becoming a notary public and was sold. I am now a notary public, remote online notary and certified notary signing agent. I also signed up for the loan signing system course and became LSS certified so that I could ensure I was knowledgeable before beginning. At this point, I basically have every notary credential possible and try to make things as convenient for my clients as possible. I love being a Notary signing agent and get to meet a lot of interesting people.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. When you leave the 9-5 world and pursue entrepreneurship, you find that you start working 24/7. With most business ventures, you go through that period in the beginning where you’re spending more than what you’re bringing in, and you’re forced to change your lifestyle completely.

When you have children, it creates even more challenges, and it takes a lot of balance to make sure you’re showing them enough love and support while also trying to secure their futures. I don’t really have a large support system so at times, I basically have to be superwoman and balance running the companies while also making daily school runs, cooking dinner, attending basketball practices and games, etc…

One of the most disappointing things about starting a business is the lack of support from family and friends. When it comes to likes and shares, I get the most support from strangers and those who I have not known for a very long period of times. It’s something that I’ve always heard about but now am witnessing firsthand.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Winiva Liability Resolutions is the first of its kind. The purpose of Winiva Liability Resolutions is to review bodily injury claims that have been denied due to liability. If there is an opportunity for a reversal and/or comparative negligence, I then provide my analysis to a personal injury attorney who is ultimately able to take over and assist the client. To get started, accident victims whose claims have been denied due to liability just need to visit www.winivaliabilityresolutions.com and complete the questionnaire to the best of their ability. I also work directly with personal injury attorneys to review cases that have been denied due to liability on their end via a service that I call a turn down review. Due to high demand, I will soon be offering consultations to personal injury attorneys also.

What are you most proud of to date?
I am most proud of our first annual back to school bash. I partnered with a company called Greater Vision Enterprises, and we held the back-to-school bash on July 31, 2021 in Ocoee. Almost everybody I approached was happy to help, and it was so nice seeing everyone come together for the greater good. There was a backpack and supply giveaway, free school/sports physicals, free food, bounce houses, game truck, live DJ etc… It was a really nice family event and most importantly, we were able to help hundreds of families. When I initially had the idea, I did not anticipate it becoming as big as it did. We only had a couple of months to prepare and given what was accomplished in only a couple of months, I cannot wait to see how many families we will be able to help next year with an entire year to plan.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One of my favorite books is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. When I first read it, my entire mindset changed. The four agreements are to be impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personally, don’t make assumptions and to always do your best.

The secret by Rhonda Byrne was also a life-changing book for me. It helped me to really focus my thoughts and maintain a positive mindset. The law of attraction is something that I have personally experienced repeatedly, and my confidence in it is what has helped me take this huge leap of faith.
