Hi Alayna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a hopeless romantic. Always have been, always will be. I’m the type that will listen to every detail about “how you met” and your proposal story – I LOVE IT. I eat it up! Tell me more! That’s one of the core reasons why I got into this industry – because of my passion for love stories. With a background in project management, business development and a degree in communications and journalism, my unique background allowed me to work with some of the largest brands in the world (like Disney, Facebook and Verizon) on incredibly high-pressure, high-stake projects. Taking the time to understand my clients, thinking quickly & creativity on my feet, paired with love for all things beautiful & romantic, made the wedding industry the perfect fit for me. And, with the added bonus of being able to tap into my love for journalism & storytelling, I’m able to bring these love stories off the pages into reality and transform them into event form! Going back even further as a child, I was lucky enough to watch my incredible mother start and run her own female-owned and operated successful business. I was always inspired by her always “can-do” positive attitude she brought to every room and her determination to go above and beyond for her clients. I owe so much of my passion and the care that I put into all of my clients through learning from her and watching her success stem from the genuine care for her clients and her projects. Apples don’t fall far from their trees, that’s for sure! In short, Roots to Stems was born out of pure grit, determination and passion for BIG LOVE. While working with every couple, my goal is to ensure I break surface level to truly understand them, from their roots to their stems. I hope to continue on my purpose-driven mission of diving deep into storytelling, designing and working with incredible couples to plan weddings strongly rooted in their love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe obstacles and challenges come into our lives as learning lessons to make us stronger and resilient! Starting a business is hard. It takes a lot of bravery and strength to continue to push forward no matter what life throws you! Personally, my biggest challenge was learning to just be myself – there isn’t a larger company to hide behind anymore. My work, my story, my brand is all ME, which is sometimes a bit daunting and, at times, scary knowing that it’s all out there on the table! Being vulnerable and learning to embrace who I am as a planner, a person and a professional may have been my largest learning lesson and something I continue to work on as I grow and evolve as a person and as a small business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was curious and full of adventure. Nothing was impossible to me – I used to tell my mom that “one day, I’ll find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” and got in trouble for venturing off on my own to go find it! Although I got caught that day as a child, my adventure didn’t stop there. 🙂 I grew older. I found adventure in the outdoors and with animals. I started barrel racing horses at the age of nine and got my first job at the barn I rode at caring for the horses, washing them and yes, cleaning up after them. I highly attribute my work ethic and “grit” to being able to get my hands dirty and get back in the saddle no matter what life throws at me.
