Inspiring Conversations with Amber Buchanan of Lashical

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Buchanan.

Hi Amber, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
I started doing eyelash extensions in 2018. When eyelash extensions started to become more popular, I saw how much money and independence there was in the business. I took two training courses and educated myself on eyelash extensions. I became more interested in making women feel more beautiful and empowering women to always love themselves. I have sickle cell anemia, which is a chronic illness where my blood cells are sickle-shaped and cause serve pain in the joints, which are called “crisis” I use to work several jobs but would get fired due to my illness. I knew I had to find a solution to have a steady income so I started my own business Lashical llc.

I perfected my craft and made sure the logistic of my business was in order and started taking clients recently in my new city in Sanford. Well, come December 31st, I went to the ER due to a bad sickle cell crisis, just to find out my spleen was enlarged and had to be removed immediately, my blood count was down to a three and If I didn’t do a certain procedure I would’ve lost my life. Meanwhile I’m completely booked for January, I just started taking clients again and my body is giving up on me. I spent 16 days in the hospital, canceled all of my appointments and went through surgery. I’m grateful that I jumped out in faith and became a full time business owner because now I don’t have the extra stress from a job. I can start taking clients again whenever I’m ready. I got to where I am today because of strength. I’ve been through so much and I honestly just keep going. I never gave up. I can’t see myself giving up because the people that are counting on me to be strong are watching.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I finished the two courses for eyelash extensions I started taking models for a $25 deposit. I was doing lashes in my home, I had a sunroom in my apartment at the time and that’s where I’ll run my business. I went through so many different business names and rebranded so many times. I finally settled on “Lashical” this year. I was in a relationship at the time when I started doing lashes, the relationship was really unhealthy and I couldn’t focus on my brand. I moved back to south FL for a few months and took a few clients there but I also started working as a medical assistant. So I really wasn’t focused on my brand. I moved back to Orlando December of 2019 and had a roommate, my roommate at the time didn’t want me to have clients in the home so I worked again, and got my own apartment with a extra room where I can run my business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lashical?
Lashical is an eyelash extensions business that strives on self-love. We specialize in classic, volume and hybrids sets. We also advocate for self-love because getting your lashes done every three weeks is a luxury and it’s a form of self-love. I promote self love because of society today, social media would make you look at yourself as if you don’t have it all together when in reality no one really has it all together. Why not love who you are in the moment. Put yourself first always, everyone is beautiful in their own way. When my clients leave their appointment they always express how they feel like themselves and how beautiful they feel. I feel accomplished and whole when I hear their feedback about not only their lashes but also their well being.
