Inspiring Conversations with Jessica Cichra of Wave of Wellness

Hi Jessica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
With a degree in psychology and interest in helping people achieve mental wellness combined with a background in physical fitness as an instructor and personal trainer, I started my own business: Wave of Wellness was born with a mission to empower people through adventurous activities that enhance all areas of well-being with a focus on travel, SUP, yoga, and community. Through an intense study and practice of Body Dialogue yoga, my chronic back pain was healed. Excited to share my success with others, I currently use its principles of postural alignment, core-stabilization, breath and energy direction as a unique platform for instructing SUP, yoga, and Bala Tula – a yoga fusion program I developed in 2010. Deeply involved in the SUP racing circuit as an athlete and wanting to build the local paddle racing community, I founded and directed the Annual Lake Mary Jane Paddle Race in 2012 and the original Florida weekly race series Paddle Race Tuesdays in 2013. My love for adventure and travel inspired me to take my instruction abroad, teaching national and international SUP Yoga and Bala Tula clinics as well as organizing and facilitating international SUP and yoga retreats where I offer clients the ultimate experience of adventure, inner peace, personal growth, physical fitness, and community. My involvement and lifestyle in the SUP and yoga industry have given me the opportunity to contribute written articles and instructional videos to Stand Up Journal, Boarders Magazine, Samata Magazine, Women’s Health Magazine Mexico, Distressed Mullet, and Yoga Digest, and be a proud brand ambassador for industry leaders: prAna, Glide SUP, Maui Jim, and Local Honey Designs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I never imagined myself a business owner, so the biggest challenge has been the business’s business side. Instructing, guiding, training is my forte, but I’ve had to educate myself in all other administrative aspects like marketing, advertising, finance, etc. And because it’s been a learning process, there’s been a constant evolution – adapting and moving with what works best, aligns with my mission, allows me to have fun and maintain my passion, but still helps me pay the bills.

We’ve been impressed with Wave of Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Wave of Wellness was born with a mission to empower people through adventurous activities that enhance all areas of well-being. We believe that achieving wellness is like dropping into a wave – get present in mind, strong in the body and free in the spirit. Guiding with the highest integrity, our team of passionate and creative instructors provides customized, on-site, fun and innovative experiences with a focus on travel, SUP, yoga, and community. Serving all ages and fitness levels in the greater Orlando area and beyond, we offer: -Adventure Travel (local and international) -Stand Up Paddleboard Tours, Events, and Instruction -Yoga, Pilates, & SUP yoga Instruction -Corporate Wellness & Convention Services. What sets us apart: Our experiences have not only physical benefits like improving balance, posture, and strength, but also promote emotional and mental well-being by enhancing presence, inner peace, confidence, consciousness, relaxation, open-mindedness, cultural awareness, and a connection to community, nature, and one’s true self. I’m proud of giving people more than they expect from our experiences and helping them achieve a higher state of well-being. People often leave feeling accomplished and strong, saying they found out they can do more than they thought they could. Or, guests of different ages and walks of life bond with each other and connect on deeper levels of humanity. Someone may sign up to learn how to stand up paddle and discover inner peace and the healing benefits of being on the water. Every experience is carefully designed to maximize the potential for personal growth and universal appreciation.
