Inspiring Conversations with Stephanie Burke of Power of Potential Coaching and Accountability

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Burke.

Hi Stephanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the Pine Hills Community and it is where I’ve spent the majority of my life. When I graduated from Evans High School in 2009, I got accepted to the University of Florida in Gainesville and I went there to get my undergraduate degree. As a First-Generation College Student, I found the transition extremely hard and I never really found my place in Gainesville but it did set the tone for the person that I am today. I graduated from UF with a B.S. in Family Youth and Community Sciences and I began working in nonprofits. The money wasn’t great but I genuinely loved what I did. I decided to go back for a Master’s degree in 2016 in Counseling but by that time, I was a wife, a mother and I was working full time as a teacher so I didn’t have the time to complete that program and I decided to change my major from Counseling to Education. When I received my Master’s degree in 2018 from Liberty University, I was more than pleased but as I continued in education, I realized that I had a real passion for working with adults.

In June of 2019, I was looking for a solution that would allow me to use the skills that I learned throughout my counseling classes as well as my education background to help my community so I started Power of Potential Coaching. I was excited but in the coming months, my excitement dwindled. I found myself in the lowest place I had ever been in my life and I wasn’t sure how to dig my way out. Eventually, I started working on my mindset and slowly things started changing. Based on my own mindset work, putting strategic goals in place and discovering HOW to create my success, I was able to create a life that I truly love. Although Power of Potential was created in June of 2019, the real work started in July of 2020 when I found my place in the world and discovered why I was truly here. The mission of Power of Potential became to empower people like me to have the courage to find their purpose and create a life that they’ll love, not only for myself, but I do it with my clients everyday through 1 on 1 and group coaching, ebooks and online materials and planners and print materials that help keep people organized, energized and prepared to succeed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The business wasn’t always easy but in the beginning, I was my biggest enemy. I was in a dark place myself, I really didn’t have the tools to be able to help others. I wasn’t getting clients but in hindsight, it was because I didn’t have the mental capacity to help anyone get to where they needed to be. Once I took a step back, reexamined myself and put in the work to improve, my life got better, my business started to flourish and I started getting clients strictly based on referrals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a Life and Accountability Coach who helps successful, driven, high achieving individuals who feel like they have plateaued find their true selves, create a plan for change and execute to perfection in order to achieve the next level of success. Through my programs, I allow them to figure out and create the life that they’ve been wanting to live. The thing that sets me apart from other coaches is that I have a unique combination of experience and education that allows me to not only understand my clients on a different level but always be abreast to several different solutions that they could employ to improve their situation. I am solutions-oriented and I give my clients the skills that they need so that even after they’ve completed their coaching program, they can then use those skills time and time again to continue to get results.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am not a huge risk-taker UNLESS I’m betting on me! My whole life, I’ve considered myself “safe” and I think a lot of that has to do with the level of success that I’ve always wanted to reach. When I work with my clients who are usually high achievers like myself, they tend to play it safe because they are generation shifters and they know that they can’t afford to fail. In my transition, I learned that I had to believe in me if I was going to be successful and that meant taking risks and doing things that I had never done before!
