Hi Brooke, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In April of 2019, I was asked to do my first photoshoot with a local photographer. I was nervous but open-minded to the idea of being a model. My first experience was amazing and I began putting my photos out there on social media and that’s when opportunities started to take off for me. Instagram has been the best outlet for me to market myself and meet others in the industry. I started getting inquiries and started working with local photographers frequently. I received local branding jobs, signed with two local agencies, and built great relationships with makeup artists and clients.
My first bridal styled shoot was what really sparked a passion and love for modeling. I felt like I was completely in my element and realized that this is something I want to pursue for as long as I can. If I can give any advice to those who wanna start out in the modeling world, I would tell them that you don’t need to be signed to a big agency to get work or to do shoots in general. Social media has so much power right now in this industry, you just need to market yourself and be consistent! Don’t let rejection from agencies get to you either. One of my friends who has modeled for years was rejected by hundreds of agencies is now signed with agencies all around the world and has been on various magazine covers. Personally, I’ve applied to various big agencies and have not been signed, but I don’t take it personally and instead continue to do what I love because I enjoy it so much. Never give up and don’t let rejection stop you from continuing on your journey, especially if it’s something you truly love and enjoy!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the obstacles I’ve come across in the modeling industry would be especially when COVID hit. I was just getting into doing fashion shows, and right after was when the pandemic hit. I think for a lot, if not all of us, were heavily impacted mentally, financially and creatively for months and months. During that time, I lost my motivation to do anything creative at all. I think what brought me back to feeling inspired again was once I put my mental health first and took care of myself. Once I did the necessary self-care that I needed to do, I felt the creativity come rushing back.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a model who specializes in bridal, beauty, branding, runway, music videos and high fashion. I am most proud of the two bridal fashion shows I was able to walk in. Never did I ever think that I would be able to walk in a runway show. I would say what sets me apart from others is my time management and bubbly personality. I love working with people in the process with planning the shoot and when we execute it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I can’t say I believe in luck. I believe that working hard for what you want in life and having a positive attitude in the face of challenges will take you far. When I was younger, I used to have a really negative outlook on life and because of that, I felt like I had no real purpose or aspirations. It wasn’t until I changed my perspective and started speaking positively over my life, as well as hard work, did I start to see my modeling business and life take off.
