Life & Work with Constance Maisha Safari

Today we’d like to introduce you to Constance Maisha Safari.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, creativity the arts and music have always been a part of my life and family lineage. I will say that I came to Orlando from a small town called Gainesville for more diversity. I always wanted to professionally pursue music but life’s experiences took a toll on me, which slowly led me into venturing into art. Art was something that gave me confidence and an outlet that allowed me to open myself up without having to utter a word. So I began to free draw these beautifully detailed pieces that each told a story and had every bit of my internal energy spilled onto paper. That started seriously in 2014. Searching for more purpose within the arts, I realized I had created an outlet for myself that could help others.

In 2018 I created something called coloring art therapy. This is where I created custom Coloring pages with custom affirmations and mantras to go along with them. The purpose for doing this is so that an individual could focus on the present moment, which in turn allows you to not think about the past or future but focus on what’s happening in real-time. I finally rebranded to AOM-Therapy, which is short for Art of Maisha. Holding classes at Michaels and other outside sources, I was able to create a safe space for individuals to enjoy the classes. I’ve always loved music so being a student of all things therapeutic I would infuse high frequency sounds creating a stimulating environment while coloring with the art created. Specific frequencies I love to play in class would be 528hz (love frequency) and 432hz (Natural earth frequency). The proof is that my coloring art therapy classes have helped individuals and that makes me very thankful. Everyone deserves a piece of mind. After covid classes have been online at the time but I prefer them in person. The experience is felt better but in due time. Until then, I continue to provide exclusive services through a home base to hold classes. Since finding a home base, I have transitioned to working on music to help soothe and heal individuals, which in turn will provide services to stimulate all senses.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing ever is a smooth road. Growth is inevitable and in order to live a life you are passionate about, it’s expected to bring forth challenges. No matter what stage you are in life we will always have challenges, so no not a smooth road and for me the challenge has always been finding my purpose within the gifts I have been given. You can have a skill, talent or gift but you have to know what you are placed here to use it for specifically. Once you know that I know things become more clear and easier to navigate!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The foundation of all of my work is the foundation of spirit. Who I am to the core. Remembering my Ancestors and remembering where my roots lye is the start of a world within that then expands beyond the norm. I am then able to show who I am because I know myself. I am an all-around artist touching all mediums. What I am known most for is my coloring art therapy. I create custom Coloring pages that include my own affirmations and mantras to assist with each theme. Coloring Art therapy is A method I created to help keep you in the present moment which supports mental health. I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to inspire others around me like I have been inspired. That I have been able to assist and help with easing the mental states individuals find themselves in. We all are different but what sets me apart is Authenticity. It will always be that factor that I believe sets me apart. You will always get me never a “MASK.”

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Hmmm, good question! Well, I am from Gainesville so what I do like is the diversity and the number of things creatively that happens in the city. As far as dislike, I would say there needs to be more reception for new things in the creative community and not get stuck in a cycle of a routine.
