Life & Work with Meghan Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Phillips.

Hi Meghan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a mother of two beautiful children and have the most supportive partner you could ask for. My passion for photography started when I was a young girl. Once I reached high school, I joined photography class right away and loved learning every aspect from digital to film. Being someone who looks back on the thousands of photographs that I have, I know the importance to have these moments captured. Life goes by fast, and pictures will be your way to revisit those memories. Memories that will last a lifetime, to pass down from generation to generation.

I have been photographing for over 12 years as a hobby and in 2019, I decided to turn my passion into my career. Helping others feel beautiful and empowered is literally a passion of mine, which is why I would have to say boudoir is my favorite genre. Wedding definitely is my runner-up. Being a part of such a special day is absolutely incredible. I love getting to know your love story and execute it. Having my career as something I love is the best thing. I came from a family of entrepreneurs and hope that my children will become them too after watching both their parents own their own business!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my own photography business has not been the smoothest ride. About six months after I started, Covid-19 struck the nation. This was a major setback for me as it was millions of others. I did not give up and focused on education, marketing, and building relationships within my community. The best thing I learned through this was community over competition. I’m very thankful for the relationship I’ve built and excited to continue to expand that community.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Starting out as a professional photographer, you want to take on every job thrown at you. I did and it really helped me narrow down which genres I wanted to focus on. Boudoir is my top choice. I love seeing women be confident and rediscover themselves. Wedding and couples have me loving love even more. I love breaking out a dance move as I make my way to get a different angle of the guest on the dance floor. I become close to my couples and they aren’t just clients to me, which is why I enjoy capturing their day so much.

Maternity and newborns melt my heart. Being a mom of two makes it even more special to me. I love watching all my families grow and being a part of it makes my job that much better.

Can you talk about how you think about risk?
I believe risk-taking is a part of life. You cannot succeed or fail without taking a risk in some way. Whether it’s a new relationship, career, starting your own company, starting a family with someone, is all a risks. Sure, you may not always get the outcome you wanted or thought you would get, but you would’ve never had to opportunity if you hadn’t taken that risk. You would not have been successful if you haven’t. Life is short. Take the risk.
