Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Hugley.
Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
Imagine beginning a YouTube channel testing other commercial company hair products and realizing that, wow I can create this on my own! Back in 2017, I was inspired by a brand of hair care product that I had tested and loved it, it contained natural ingredients but the downside was – it also contained chemicals that I could not even pronounce. I began doing research and creating handmade hair care products that are for all hair types and include everything naturally made by Mother Nature: 4thekurlture, remember the name.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing successful ever comes smoothly, I used to always hear that saying and never truly understood it until it became something I’d experience. To be honest, being an entrepreneur is hard- especially working alone. You have to do your own product creation, your own purchases (big losses on inventory, and understanding how your financial analytics work together with your target audience. It requires a ton of patience!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I created my own natural hair care products, which is currently on restock mode until Feb 2021, 4thekurlture. I have researched, put out new products, took some off the product listing and started over many times until I got it right. I use natural ingredients, no chemicals, which is great for all hair types. I’d like to say that I specialize in helping the hair grow and keeping the hair hydrated to prevent any damage or reverse any, if applicable. I am most proud of myself because I did it, on my own – no help- that alone one can say sets me apart from others. Some people will go through white glove companies, spend big dollars on products that are created in a lab for hundreds and thousands of dollars- I am not knocking that but I like to get my hands-on experience in my own home – that way I know for sure what’s going on my products.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Although I have mentioned it before to others – most people are surprised that I even have a business. I’m working on becoming more of a networking person. I’m the only child so being outgoing was not my number one attribute.
