Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Warrick.
Hi Stephanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story is relatable to a lot of moms out there, especially stay-at-home moms that turn their hobby or passion into a small business. That’s exactly what happened to me. When I became a stay-at-home mom I discovered that I had a little downtime during the time that both of my daughters were in school. I’ve always been creative and I’ve always loved photography, so I decided to purchase my first full-frame camera. I would take my daughters out after school and on weekends and practice on them to help start up my portfolio. Then I would offer free mini sessions to local family and friends. Practice makes perfect!! It was a win-win scenario both ways because as long as they signed a release for me to post their photos on my website, then they would get a free family session. I would do a lot of online advertising via Facebook and Yelp.
Then after a couple of years, my referrals were primarily all word of mouth. On my second year of photography, I invested money in new gear, paid for liability insurance and then became an LLC. The name of my photography business is Beyond The See Photography. The money I’ve put into my business has definitely paid off! In that same year, I was hired on with an International Pageant that is huge in the Pageant Industry. This gave me tons of exposure nationally and internationally. I am now working with a second pageant organization and have been published in over five magazines both nationally and internationally. I was awarded the top 10 “Best Event Photographer of 2020” by Pageant Planet. My company came in 4th in the Nation. My portfolio has grown tremendously in the last four years that I identify my photography as lifestyle, family, wedding and event.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At first, it was a bit intimidating because I had a lot of new clients contact me for a session and my portfolio wasn’t yet built up. I also saw so many professional photographers that there were in the Central Florida/Orlando area with tons of experience already and it seemed like it would take me forever to get where they were professionally. However, I didn’t give up and always took my camera out and practiced along with taking photography classes at a local Art School. In no time, I became efficient with my camera and built up my cliental and portfolio.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I definitely consider myself “a creative brain.” I love the artsy side of photography and always find ways to grow more in the photography field. My clients always rave about how creative I am when it comes to composition, editing style, and posing. This motivation and positive feedback is what drives me. I am always trying new editing styles and keeping my style current and relevant. My colors are always crisp and bold and I love dramatic angles and posing. I know that photographers must have that “creative eye.” I like to be original and develop my own style in photography so it helps to set my work apart from other photographers in the area. Customer service is a huge part as well. It’s what keeps clients coming back year after year. Developing and maintaining that great relationship with my clients is what is most important to me. Photography is not just a click of a camera and giving the client their images. It’s a 4 step process. The initial contact via email or social media message, then the first impression at their session, then the final product of how their images come out after editing and lastly a friendly follow up days later to let them know that they were important to you and your business and it as a pleasure working with them.
What are your plans for the future?
My business goal is to become a traveling national wedding and event photographer with my husband, who acts as my second photographer for weddings and events. We plan on retiring after our daughters both get married and building a smaller home on a big piece of land with beautiful scenery to photograph our daughter’s families.
