Life & Work with Ciara Ulloa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Ulloa.

Hi Ciara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born & raised in NYC; I started taking pole dancing & aerial fabric lessons in 2014, with no other fitness or dance background. As the years went on, I grew more serious about it; ventured into different styles of dance (street jazz, floorwork, hip hop, etc.), performing & teaching. I got into competitive pole dancing shows in 2017 but didn’t start doing it regularly until 2019, when I competed in Orlando for the first time. That year I found out Pole Sport Organization holds a 2-day pole dance competition of different levels, styles & ages. I hadn’t traveled to Florida since I was a child, & I really wanted more tropical getaways from NYC. Since 2019, I’ve been performing in competition every year! Each year is a different story, a different choreography & a different set of plans. Each time I learn something new about myself in every way possible. Every year I also visit different theme parks, restaurants & entertainment centers in Orlando!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not, but it’s been worth it. Being a dancer is hard, consistent work that one has to put time & care into on a regular basis. Being part of competition requires so much dedication, patience, struggle & passion. It can be especially difficult when the performance doesn’t go as planned (this happened to me on my Orlando show this year!). I cried afterward & felt so disappointed, but I picked myself back up & know this was just a learning experience. Next time will be better!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a dancer & choreographer. I am most proud of the classes I have taught, pushing my students to do better & most proud of all of the performances I have done on stage (competition or not).

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
My family, my fiancé, my friends & my dancing. These are the things that keep me going. Dance is an amazing outlet for me, regardless of what I am feeling. It’s also opened doors for me to meet other amazing people!
