Life & Work with Cindy Ortega

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Ortega.

Hi Cindy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child raised in a military family, I have learned to embrace and love the beauty of different cultures. Prior to becoming a nurse, I worked as a dental assistant at Capeside Dental in West Melbourne for 7 years. I decided to pursue a career in nursing and left the practice in 2009. I completed my Associate of Science degree in Nursing in 2011 and began working at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne Florida. While working in the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit, I went on to complete my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University. Soon after, I joined the Medical Intensive Care Unit and ultimately achieved a Master’s in Science degree of Nursing. I’m a board-certified Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN-BC) in the state of Florida. After putting my heart and soul into caring for people at the bedside, I learned that time is truly precious. In finding a balance to be the best mother to my amazing four children and great wife to my supportive husband, I decided to create my own career, purpose, and agenda.

I received my initial microblading certification at Lush Beauty and Browtique in Melbourne, Florida. I then attended the world-renowned Beauty Angels Academy to study under Master Trainer Kler Rosenberg in the Advanced Microblading and Shading Curriculum and the Powder Brow Curriculum. I also studied under Master Trainer Amanda Breuer of Beauty Angels Academy and completed the Angel Removal Specialist curriculum. I’m a certified Silver Angel Artist from the Beauty Angels Academy. Microblading allows me to channel my artistic skills (with a hint of OCD) to create brows that are ready to go! No more drawing, filling, or even smearing eyebrows!

With my love for aesthetics and beauty, I’ve also completed the Botulinum toxin and Dermal filler certification with Aesthetic Medical Educator’s Training (AMET) in Miami, Florida, and later completed advanced courses at the Esthetic Skin Institute (ESI) in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Fascinated with facial artistry and the like, I’m committed to learning new skills and techniques.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t believe that achieving dreams will ever be an easy task; however, with perseverance, anything is possible. I opened the doors to my business on March of 2020 and closed them a few days later due to the pandemic. While home with my family, I also took advantage of continuing education online and getting additional certifications as well as practicing my skills. The first few months after opening was a slow start, but it allowed me to appreciate and learn necessary business tasks.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a nurse practitioner entrepreneur who owns a permanent makeup studio. I specialize in permanent brow makeup or micropigmentation. I’m most known for the Blade & Shade technique which is a blend of microblading and shading techniques to create a very realistic set of brows.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
This industry has skyrocketed within the last 2 years despite the pandemic. I believe it’s here to stay and is now considered part of the facial aesthetics arena. Within the next few years, I plan to maximize my Nurse Practitioner knowledge to expand within the aesthetics industry so that I’m able to provide more services to my community.
