Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Yarbrough.
Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion has always been to make others feel beautiful in their own skin. Removing insecurities by removing unwanted hair! My mission has been to provide a place of employment that will empower women to feel confident, valued and respected while creating a space for them to excel, grow and achieve in an uplifting culture. I am a cosmetologist turned business owner. I began my journey 15 years ago when I learned the art of sugaring at my first job in a salon in Dallas. I worked there for about five years and really developed my technique and love for sugaring. When my husband joined the military, we were stationed in Arkansas, where I rented a little room and provided services to friends and it slowly grew by word of mouth. After six years in Arkansas, we were then relocated to Florida, where I took a stab at my first real business. I opened the first location in Port Orange with just myself servicing clients. It quickly grew to several employees. After a year of being opened, I opened my second location in Lake Mary. By year three, I partnered with my mom, who was originally an employee at the Port Orange location to open a third location in Ormond Beach! This year we are coming up on our 4th year and will be opening our 4th location in Oviedo in the Spring!! I am so blessed to have an amazing team of women at each location where we are able to serve the community by removing unwanted hair and insecurities!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is ever easy in business. It is just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other. In the beginning, I had NO IDEA what I was doing and just figured it out as I went. My first huge obstacle was changing the business name after all marketing material was made and the website was established. Staffing a business is always challenging. Making sure that your teams mesh well together is so important. So really, everything was a challenge, but I developed amazing relationships, found mentors, and just did the work needed to make it work when a roadblock presented itself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Sugaring is an all-natural alternative to waxing that is less painful and longer-lasting than traditional waxing. At MamaBare Sugaring Studio we specialize in Brazilians but perform sugaring on all areas of the body, including the face! All of our employees go through an extensive two to three week training period before they start working on clients. We really focus on the entire client experience and provide a safe, welcoming place to come get your unwanted hair removed. I would say that I am most proud of the culture and teams that I have built at the studios. I absolutely love watching these women develop into confident specialists and watching them grow in all areas. I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic. Most don’t know and wouldn’t think, but I am a high school drop out, was a young mother but knew I wanted so much more for my life and for our children. I always strive to be the hardest working person in the room and love solving problems.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Personally, my family. My husband and children are the most important things in my life. Professionally, creating a place where our clients and my staff feel safe, appreciated and valued. I think when people trust you and know what to expect from you, it creates stability.
