Meet Breena Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breena Johnson.

Hi Breena, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My passion for photography has always been present even as a young girl. At the age of 12 with my Olympus Stylus 35-70mm in hand I would enjoy capturing everything around me. Even then I was the one in the family with my camera always by my side. While I went on as a young adult to obtain degrees in Chemistry and Speech-Language Pathology, I never quit photographing. After the birth of my first daughter, I wanted to pursue photography at a deeper level and be able to preserve moments for others and not just for myself. That’s when my business was born, in April of 2010. I was so in love with preserving these precious moments that my business began to bloom, and I began professionally photographing full-time.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Moving 1,000 miles from WV to FL in 2018 was a challenge for my business in that I felt as if I was starting all over again. What’s amazing though is that I now have families here that I have made deep connections with just like the families I had up North, who trust me to capture their most important and cherished moments. My advice to other small business owners is to hang in there if you have to go through a long distance move because while it is tough in the beginning, you can get through it with perseverance and motivation! Another thing that I love about being here is that I now live in a place where families from all over the world come to vacation, and I get the honor of meeting them and documenting their special memories!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would describe my work as posed life-style photography. I capture those raw intimate emotions along with the “perfectly” posed portraits for a combination of truly desirable images that everyone loves and is thrilled to hang in their homes. Offering unique genuine sessions tailored to each and every client has set me apart from many other photographers in the area. As a mother of three, I know how fleeting time can be, and wanting to preserve my own precious memories has allowed me to understand how important it is for me to not only do so for myself but for others as well. Being able to has given me an abundance of joy and pride. Babies, children, and families are my primary clients, but I do also capture a variety of other portraiture and weddings throughout the year. Snuggling with those fresh newborns is definitely my favorite! I come from a family of 6 children, so loving on babies is in my blood.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say patience is the most important characteristic for me given that my primary clients are newborns and children. Taking that extra little bit of time to let the little ones warm up to me beforehand and not rushing through posing and positioning those tiny newborns goes such a long way to capturing gorgeous happy images that the parents absolutely love. Parents notice and appreciate how you interact with their children, which is as important to me as a photographer as it is to me as a mother. Constantly developing and challenging my skills for photographing and editing are also very important in this continually evolving line of work.
