Meet Chelsea Bobola of Azurite Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Bobola.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been interested in different hobbies and I came across leather crafting when I wanted to make a wallet for a family member for Christmas. Since I didn’t know much about it I took a leather carving class at Tandy leather in Winter Park and fell in love with it. I’ve been doing it ever since, challenging myself to try new designs and techniques.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think when you venture into any new territory, it’s never going to be a smooth road. However, starting a business in the midst of a pandemic definitely has had its share of obstacles. On top of shutdown restrictions, I also had two surgeries over this past year and was starting everything from scratch. I had to learn social media strategies, marketing, photography, and product production without the training I had originally planned on taking. I grew my skill set through trial and error, so I appreciated every opportunity my struggles gave me to improve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Azurite Designs LLC is run solely by me I make leather products and goods varying from cuffs, purses, wallets, knife sheaths, gun holsters, and other jewelry. I’ve also created bootpax that attach to your boots when you’re out dancing for those times when you don’t want to bring a purse and wear a dress. I’m known most for my custom work and I think that is what sets me apart from others as well as my unique view and style of the products I create.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those that are just starting out, I would say don’t give up. It’s going to take time and practice to get better. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it. Save all your receipts and find a good company to help make it an official business, it’s a huge help in the beginning. Lastly, surround yourself with people who share your same vision and use social media to your advantage. Inspiration can come from anywhere!
