Meet Diamond Sky

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Sky.

Diamond, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated with nails. I love them all; natural, artificial acrylic, etc. When I was a little girl, my mother always wore really long nails with a lot of designs. As I got older, I never lost my interest, but as a young African-American girl, it was not normal to go to your parents and tell them you wanted to be a nail tech when you got older. So I practiced my first love while going through high-school and college. Once I got into adulthood, I had to put becoming a nail tech on the back bunner. I took Jobs like a store manager for Payless shoes and then to capital one financial. Besides, at this time, like it had been, the Asian community was running the nail game. Even though I was making great money working I wasn’t happy, I was not doing what I enjoyed NAILS. So after prayer and consideration, I decided to step out on a leap of faith and purse my first love against the odds.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not easy at first at all. Lol, I had two major strikes against me 1. I was not apart of the Asian community and 2. My prices were a little costly than the average nail shop because I wanted to use the best quality products on my clients. I just stayed committed at my craft and in prayer. Sometimes I would have one client a week, sometimes none. I spent a lot of money on my products. Money that I didn’t see back right away. I kept in my head, “nice nails are not cheap, and cheap nails aren’t nice!”

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in nail extensions with acrylic applications I very rarely use polish or gel polish. I would have to say people know my work because of my choice of designs with my stones, hence the name Diamond Sky, which is also my name for my brand of nail products. I’m extremely proud of who I am and where my business is now. I’m so excited to see where it’s going because I know the best is yet to come. I feel like in my 14 years of doing this, I have broken many barriers I thought I couldn’t. I have even helped to push over 100 other beautiful women into pursuing their nail tech careers within the last two years with my nail classes.

For me what I believe may set me apart from other nail techs is that I truly love what I do. Doing nails is like one of my kids it’s my baby. It has never been about the money for me. It’s the joy in assisting in making every woman feel beautiful. Someone once asked me if I had the opportunity to work with a celebrity client. And though I have worked with a few and contacted by many. My reply was to me, all of my clients are celebrities. Even though you can’t always make everyone happy, I stand behind my brand 100% and do my very best to make sure my clients are happy. Humbleness is everything and it has and always will follow me from one client to thousands.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I would have to say my mother’s nails and all of the different designs. I also remember being a little girl and being allowed to pick out one toy. Sometimes when we went shopping for me it was always nailed stuff.

  • My prices typically start at about $75.00 and goes up from there depending on what the clients want
